Question: Fire Bottle Install

that just seems really expensive for a fire extinguisher. walmart sells dry chemical ones for automotive use the same size for like 20 bucks. is there any thing special that i am not seeing about this one.

Other then it's appearance? Nope, not really. It's Christmas.

When I used to build model cars, we used to install the fire extinguisher in the truck with all the little tools that were included, but that won't work on most corvettes.

I put a Halon fire ext. in mine. It won't eat away the chrome or polished alum. like the dry chemical ones will. A little more expensive, but worth it to me. I mounted it to the floor in front of the pass. seat. Plenty of room, the seat never moves.

I was thinking of mounting it in the back but within reach.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad I asked and have learned a little bit about fire extinguishers. Going with the chrome 2 1/2lb. halotron. Just need to figure out how I'm going to mount it, preferrably in the rear compartment somewhere. Any more pics of installed fire extinguishers?

I have the 2 1/2lb. Halon Fire Extinguisher and want to mount it to the very back just below the pull shade. I need to know if you have to remove the speakers in order to remove the pull shade and what type of material makes up the vertical backend? Any reason not to mount a fire extinguisher there?

Only reason I can think of to NOT mount it back there is access. If you need it you need it NOW. No real time to fool around getting the back end open. It needs to be locked down so it stays put, and really in a handy spot. And FWIW, Halon or equivalent is the ONLY way to go IMHO.:thumb

My first idea was to attach it to the middle rear compartment door for easy access but that would mean having to lift that compartment door along with the fire extinguisher in order to get to the other compartment bins. Maybe this is still the way to go?
