Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP (not the run flat)

Hi.....is anyone using these tires or has anyone? I've been looking for new tires and I'm just about sure these are the ones I'm going to get. I got a price locally for basically the same as Tire Rack.........I also read that anytime you get new tires you should have an alignment done. Is that true?

I run them and love them, quiet and stick to the ground like glue.Wet or dry...

Love 'em

I've had them about 6 weeks and really like them. The former tires were 'stock' Goodyears although not the tires that came with the car. The Firestones are much quieter and grip better. One of my kids had a '98 coupe and wore out the originals. He really liked the Firestones. A local Corvette repair shop (body, frame, paint) owner recommended them too. The Tire Rack tire comparison chart rates these 2nd, as I recall, overall. I could get them locally for a good price and went for it. Glad I did too.

I like them. Road noise hasn't been an issue and I can't believe how well they grip in the rain.

;stupid

I run these tires, got them for $186 at the Rack. They're quiet, grip well and they've treated me well so far.:upthumbs

I got these tires this past January (2003) and love them. Previously had the stock Goodyears and hated them. The Firestones have no road noise, good grip, and are smoother riding. I also got the wheel alignment at the same time and glad I did. The left rear wheels were severely out of alignment. I got the tires at Sears. Not the best price but if I have problems there will be plenty of Sears' to go to. :Steer

It was a toss up between these and the BFGs.
The Firehawks were aound $180-190 and BFGs $155 at Town Fair TIre.

I decided to check out BJ's first just to see.
They don't carry Firestone but the BFGs were $140 complete ! !
BJs also offers a road hazzard warranty were most tire shops wont.

The tie was broken by cost and warranty so I went with the BFGs.

I have almost 4yrs and over 20Kmiles on SZ50's. Like everyone says they have great traction, especially in the rain.
If you are looking for the tire bargian take a look at Kumho.

I assume the BFG's you are refering to are the g-force KDW or KDWS. I am quite pleased with KDWS, they handle the weather much better than the GSC's and I already have more mileage on them than the total life span of the GSC's and still 70% tread left. They are daily driver specific since the performance is less than the others mentioned. Depends on your needs.

Seems like the GSC's haven't got too many fans here! I considered the KDWS but heard so many great things about the SZ50's that I went with the Firestones. Who knows, maybe I'll try out the KDWS's next time...

I would have to agree, I like them also, they Hook up great on the Road and the track, tread pattern looks pretty cool from the backside also.:beer

Firestone Firehawk

:w I have these SZ50EP Firestone tires on my 2000 Coupe but have the RFT on them too. Are these basicly the same without the RFT (Run Flat Tire) endorsement on them? Didn't know they made this same tire in a non-run flat version. Or are we talking about the same tire? Just a little confused here; but also keep in mind I am not an expert in the field either!

Thanks,
Bill :confused

Lucky, hate to rain on your parade, firestone has discontinued the sz50 except for the runflats. Just be aware you are buying a discontinued product. If for some reason 2 years from now you want or need to replace a tire you will not be able to get a matching tire. I am a bridgestone/firestone dealer, I'll be sure to ask why they dropped this tire expect for the runflat version at the dealer meeting this week

Firestone SZ50

Yes, they are definitely available as run-flat or not.

Ya know, when companies, tires companies especially, drop a product line like that, why the hell don't they immediately have an offering to replace it - "in kind"? :mad

I didn't see the SZ50's on Tirerack and I think it was Ken who said a few months ago that they were discontinued because they weren't selling as well as expectations.

Firestone Firehawk EP (RFT) Tires

Am I to understand they still make the SZ50EP Firehawks which is the run flat (RFT) but do not make the non-run flat version of this? Please let me know if this is in fact the case since you are a Bridgestone/Firestone dealer if you would please. I don't need tires for a while but you never know, and I really like these Firestone Firehawk tires.

Thanks,
Bill :w
