Has anyone bought the new Firestone Firehawk RFT RunFlats for there C6. My original Goodyears are shot after 18K miles and I am now in the market for some new shoes. I have done some research and from what I have seen the Firestones have been around for the C5 for some time and now are available for the C6. The price for the Firestones at the Tirerack is very reasonable. I have been considering going with non-runflats but the price on these tires is very tempting. Does anyone have knowledge on these?????

I just got my new Firestone runflats from Tirerack today. I ordered then yeaterday just after noon and they were delivered to my door this morning. About 21 hours from ordering to delivery, now that is amazing. The price is really great also. The total price, including delivery, is $958.16. Much better price then the Goodyears, and in my opinion they were a total piece of crap. I figured I would try the Firestones, and at this price I can't go wrong.

Let us know how you like them. It's always good to have real customer information to go on when it's time to buy "new shoes for the baby!" ;)

I've got a new toy so will be running the stock Goodyears for awhile, but on my last one I replaced the Goodyears with Michelin Pilot Sport run flats and liked them very much. Will be interested to hear about the Firestones.

That's right. Be sure to give us an update after a few miles! Good luck.

I had my new Firestones put on the car last week. They have a much better ride and much less noise then the original Goodyears. The price is much cheaper then the Goodyears and highly reccomend them to anyone in the market for new runflats.

Just for fun...
Where'd you go to have them put on your car? Did you have someone contacted ahead of time? Costs? Any issues with lifting and cracked rockers? You take pucks with you and talk with service personnel?
You're the second or third I have heard good things from regarding the FSs. Glad they are meeting your approval! :)

I went to the Chevy dealer and the Covette mechanic is a friend of mine so I knew it would be done right. It cost $60 per wheel to mount and balance and had no issues. I considered going to the local NTB but they didn't seem very confident and I wanted it done right with no problems, so I paid the price. I also had the car alligned for another $180 because the left front had some wear on the inside.

Sounds good! :) Definitely worth putting on the short list.

Thanks for the info. I will keep this in mind when the Supercars wear out. I'm sure it won't be long.

$60.00 per wheel to mount and balance?????:confused :ugh ;shrug. And you say the Corvette mechanic is a FRIEND of yours!

They recently went to $70 per wheel, so I did "get a break" at $60 if you can call it that. The local NTB quoted a price of $30 per wheel and really didn't want to do it. They were not very confident and said they only had one or two guys they would let do it at all. So I just bit the bullet and paid the extra to make sure it was done right.

Is yours a Z 51? Cause im approaching 17,000 with my Goodyear Supercar Tires, so soon enough ill be in the market for a new set of sneakers.

Would like to hear from all you Z51 owners who have bought new tires and your opinion of them.

Yes, mine is an 05 Z51. I got just over 18K miles on the original Goodyears. Time will tell but at this point I love the new Firestones. Hardly any road noise and a much nicer ride. I really have not had a chance to really push them hard but seem to handle as well, if not better, then the Goodyears ever did.

Hi all,:w

I have been following this thread on the new Firestone run flats. I have had mine for about 2 weeks and must agree with Kerry that the tires at this point have not disappointed me in any way. I went to my local Firestone store and had the tires ordered from them of which they were not aware of these tires and had to call an engineer with Firestone to get any info on them. After a couple of days I was able to order them and they matched the Tire rack's price. Out the door including mounting was $1062.78. That is about $400 less than the Goodyear quotes from Discount. The tire order numbers are 057333 for the fronts and 057367 for the rears. The tread design looks outstanding as well. Highly recommend.

Thanks for the discussion, I have 55oo miles on my 06 convertible and I am considering new Cray Scorpion wheels. I figured if I am going to do this, I might as well get the tires as well. I was looking at the Firestones and you are right. The price is great for what sounds like outstanding performance. This may put the exhaust system and air induction off to next year. I also want to change out my C6 calipers with the red 05 Z06 calipers. These are the same as the stock C6 calipers but red. I checked out the Z06 big calipers and I was to told I needed to replace the entire assembly at a cost of $3000.00. This included the large calipers, new rotors; ss brake lines, pads and fluid. Not sure if this is the best allocation of funds. I can do new calipers, tires and wheels for about $3500 versus $3000 just for the Z06 big calipers which by the way, new wheels are also required along with the entire wheel assembly.

If color is the only reason to change calipers, why don't you just paint them with red caliper paint? I did it on my 05, and they looked great, and the paint lasted.

I have considered painting them. I just figured if I replace the wheels, and tires that I would purchase new ones. I had a price to have them painted and a local corvette specialist for $100.00 per caliper. I figure I can get them new for $400 and the brackets for an additional $200 at West Coast Corvette. The place that gave me the price of $100.00 per caliper actually takes them off and paints them, I would not want to mess with this. Thanks for the information. Just in case i change my mind, how did you clean up the calipers prior to painting?????

Everything you need is in the kit. On a difficulty scale of one to ten, it's a one. I believe I paid about $25 for the kit at Autozone. I used the brush on kit, and it looked as good as the factory red. IMHO:cool It took about two hours, including jacking and wheel removal.

Good discussion here but, does anyone realize this thread was started over 2 years ago?

It is easy to find old threads using the search function. I have done it before too! And posted!

thanks, it is amazing the one place wanted $100 per wheel.
Take care.
