flashing lights on temperature controls

This is a strange one dealing with a 1989 Vette.

Example: you set the internal temperature to 80 degrees and press the "auto" button. When the inside car temperature reaches 80 degrees the display panel with the number 80 flashes and the light on the "auto" button flashes. If you had used another button (for directional air) the light associated with that button would flash. These lights keep flashing until the internal temperature changes or you reset the temperature. As soon as the internal temperature gets to the number you set,........you got it! Flashing lights again.

When you turn the heat & a/c off, the same thing happens (most of the time). We can't find anything in the car manual or the Hayes manual about this.

Anybody recognize these symptoms? It's very hard to describe and I've probably confused a whole lot of you but here's hoping....

Thanks in advance.

Ann

Had the same problem with my 88. Take a look at the link I found here on CAC and follow the procedures. Worked for mine. Wish I was as smart about Vettes as the other folks here but that's why I'm here everyday checking. I'm slowly learning to do searches (thanks to Ken) for specific answers to my questions. Thanks to the original responders to this thread that solved my problem.

Flashing lights on temperature controls

Thank you for your replies and the information. I did spend some hours last night trying to find out if this problem had already been discussed but it's hard to do a search when one is not sure what the key words are.

I've printed the information and we'll try this tonight.

Thank you again.
