I moved the Electromotive TEC3 closer to the back of the dash carrier assembly so now I can fit something over that side of the dashboard. My puzzle at the moment seems to be whether I want to re-install the factory "breadbox" (with minor modification to one bracket) or use a flat panel with an opening for the vent, or maybe purchase one of the aftermarket items, either with or without the glove box - y'all have seen 'em, right? ;shrug

I mocked it up with a piece of poster board to see what it'll look like:

Here's what I currently have going:

What do you all think - which way should I go?

Now I can go with anodizing the aluminum or something else too, maybe even include a bowtie logo or a Corvette logo, eh? :cool

Looking Good Bro

I like the aluminum idea with a bow tie:upthumbs

I think a flat panel with the same material your gauges are in would look great. IMO the smoother lines without the bread box look better. Of course I'm biased 'cause that's what I've got. ;)

Ken,
How about a flat aluminum plate, anodized if your going to the other pieces, with some sort of engraved logo.:dance That way both sides of the dash would match.

Anodized plate surrounding a flat panel display run to a laptop with GPS stuck in the well behind the passenger seat.

I'm great at spending OTHER people's money, as well as my own.

:L This ain't no ... whatever - it's hot rod! :bu

Next thing ya know Rich, you'll be wantin' me to put the air conditioner back, then the radio, then the alarm, then ... ;LOL

I'm getting a set of brushed aluminum also as it looks good with gray. That way I can be a transformer at will. :L

Oh yeah, I forgot... you're "all go, no show." :) How about a g-force readout plus the number of Vipers you've currently :Buttslap 'd. Uh huh...

If anyone is curious, here's what my aftermarket "glovebox" kit looks like. The heater vent is supposed to be held on with double-sided tape, but that lasted until the first day over 80 degrees so now it's got industrial velcro (one part on the panel, one part on the vent). Sticks like a champ.

BTW - as a more serious suggestion (and one that sounds familiar - did someone mention this in another thread?) how about a metal panel with trim and script to look like a mid-year glovebox door?

Ken, remember how Johnny in the Neatherlands home made dash in his
C4 looked before he wrecked? Yours is along those same lines already. I believe his had Corvette written in the flat panel.

Gordon

Me too i am with the bread loaf, however since you have modified other aspects of the interior it really doesn't matter if you stay with the bread loaf or not. Might as well go with something else.

Now there's an idea! I could even have it hinged to access the TEC3. :cool

Thanks Rich! :upthumbs

That's what mine looked like when I first got it back in '94.

I took it off in a matter of weeks; it didn't work for me. :(

I kinda like the breadbox too, the dash just looks like one long flat board.

You're welcome... Occasionally I'll come up with something worthwhile :).

And, much as I like wood trim on an interior, that was DEFINITELY too much. Vettes should have higher-tech materials.

Even tho I have the wood trim, I have to agree with you Rich. It is way too much.
When I got the car, the interior was non-existent. No door panels, seats torn and worn badly and the plastic dash parts cracked and broken. I don't know why the previous owner let it get that way. Anyway, I got a really good deal on the wood, already attached to the trim, from a vette rodder in Canada. We're talking really, really good deal. I'm going to put aluminum trim on the old plastic and cover up the mess, then some day invest in new originals. Except for the bread box. I just don't care for it, although I'm keeping the one I have. :)

Have you seen the after market bread box that's hinged and opens like a real glove compartment? They show up on eBay every now and then. They look good, too. :cool

I haven't seen one of those in years, Gordon. When I first got mine they were popular. Popular but cheap. :L

I'd thought about making mine into one of those, but decided to keep it stock in case I ever put it back. Why? No idea... almost nothing ELSE on the car is stock any more...
