;shrugDoes any body have info on how to get the flexible steering coupler, just above the steering box apart, it's out of the car, I have a replacement kit,but I need parts off the old coupler, but I'll be damned if I can get the old one apart, any help, suggestions woul be much appreciated, thanks

I rebuit mine, don't remember how or what I had to tear apart, but not happy with the rebuild kit, had to buy 2 kits to get it closer to original.. If I was doing it again, I would just buy a complete GM replacment rag joint probably on ebay. Going for around $100. I have heard that you should not rebuild them, since this is a key element in the steering, but I would trust mine, especially over one that is 36 years old.

If it's one of the repair kits with the solid rubber disc element, I wouldn't use it; the original had a 7-layer element and riveted safety pins for a reason. The only connection between you and the front wheels isn't a great place to save money.

I agree. I bought one of those rebuild kits but quickly gave up since the replacement hardware wasn't even close to matching the OEM pieces. I ended up purchasing a brand new rag joint. Sure it cost more, but I have piece of mind knowing I won't loose steering going 65 down the freeway.
