Anybody have any suggestions on repairing a large hole in the driver's side floor pan? Obviously the previous owner wasn't paying attention and hit something that knocked a hole aprroximately 6" x 8" under the headlight floorboard switch. He then hastlily repaired it with some tin and removed the heat shield! This was discovered while attempting a complete interior restoration.

I am looking for a company who sells a floor pan insert if there is such a thing that can be rivited to the remaining fiberglass. Any help would be great...

What i would do, is, take your vette over to a sheetmetal shop (Heating and A/C Shop) and show them what you need done. They will be able to take measurements and make you a pan that you can lay in under the carpeting and seal it so its water tight ; To finish the job, you can put some fiberglass on the bottom side bonded to the pan . They can also make you a replacement heat shield out of some heavy guage metal stock .

Swavedave, it's not possible to move the car at this time...here are some pics. I don't have a pic of the hole though.

Before...then after....

Just make some fiberglass repairs over the wholes.68s didnt have the metal floor pans so I wouldnt use them. :w

;stupid

I agree- fiberglass repair is not rocket science. Actually, I rather enjoy it. Get yourself a Corvette specific book on repairs and have at it!

Sand down and rough up the area around the hole.Get some woven fiberglass cloth and some Epoxy (Two part Resin). I like Epoxy resin over polyester-- its stronger. I lay a patch inside first and paint the epoxy on the cloth. Let her cure for a day and do another layer of cloth and epoxy to the underside. You nay have to wait till the epoxy starts setting up on the underside cause the cloth has a tendency to want to droop. If shes not waterproof after that just coat the area with the epoxy again and that should do it....

Thanks guys, I am going to give it a shot next week.. Doesn't seem like to big of a job but with my luck ....;shrug
