iam looking to upgrade my exhaust system on my 94 C4 with the purchase of a flowmaster catback exhaust systen#17217. my question: is it true that flowmaster's catback system creates interior resonance that are the worst of all catback system being sold today? i haven,t heard anything good about flowmasters when it comes to interior resonance, are they that bad, interior resonance that loud? i would appericate hearring from those who has experence with flowmaster's catback exhaust systems. dose anyone have any pics of a flowmaster exhaust system installed on their C4 vette?

I have run flowmasters on my mustangs in the past, they do resonate. One thing it depends on is the mufflers you are going to run. American Thunder 2 chamber are going to resonate more than Delta Flow 3 chamber. I read somewhere that if you use a balance pipe just after the Y off at rear you can reduce this noise. I plan to use flowmaster on the Corvette as I like the distinct sound. I will have my system custom bent and will be adding the balance pipe at the rear Y.

Here is a picture of the 92-96 Flowmaster exhaust on a C4, I painted the tips black before installing

I had the Flomaster system for a year, then changed to a Stock LT4 then to my current Borla Challenge system. I did not care for the Flowmaster tips. The resonance was there, like with most aftermarket systems but it did not bother me.

Here's my '89 with stainless steel tips....and it is loud but do luv it.... :beer

Most all C4 cat-back systems will have some sort of resonance at certain RPM ranges. I have a 3" B&B TriFlow system and the resonance is at tis worst around 1200-1600 RPM which is between 55 and 65MPH. I have a 'vert and even with the top down, there is still some resonance. Above 70 there is little noise inside the cabin.

Flowmasters can be loud if you are using only mufflers and no resonator, but I don't think you get a choice of Flowmaster mufler models with their 17217 system and that system includes a resonator.

Have you tried running without mufflers? Any good exhaust shop can cut the OEM mufflers and replace them with open pipe. Shouldn't cost much over $60 to do and will give you some idea of what sort of sound to expect.

I've heard a lot of good comments about the Corsa C4 system. Very good exhaust note and little in-cabin resonance. If you shop around, you should be able to get them for just a bit more over the Flowmaster system. They are even the GM Performance Parts Catalog and have a lifetime warranty.

I have the system you are thinking of installing & there is very little resonance. In fact when the cat-back was installed I thought it was to quiet. After about 5k it got a little louder at idle & when you step on it, it sounds good.

I had flowmasters on my 90, mufflers only, & the resonance was too loud.

Some folks don't like the tips, they look like opposed D'S., but they look ok to me. I can e-mail you a picture of the rearview if you like. By the way, I have an auto & the 90 had a stick, don't know if that makes any difference resonance wise.

Flows do resonate, some people can live with it and some cant.

Adding extended tips, dynomat material, crossover pipes.....all helps but it wont eliminate it.

Corsa is the only bolt-on system that has no resonance, unless you added headers.

You add headers and there wont be anything you can do to get rid of it, short of plugging up the pipes on long trips.
