Just got my first Corvette (2001 Coupe) the fog/hatch switch does not light up with the dash lights. Is there a bulb in there, does the switch need to be replaced, or does it just not light up? Thanks for any help.

First off we need to Welcome you to our community of CAC! :wI may be prejudiced, but I like your selection of years. :D Now to your question.....I'm not sure. I don't think I've ever looked at mine when the lights are on. Hopefully someone else will jump in here to (pardon the pun) shed some light on the subject. :eyerole

I couldn't tell ya about the bulb thing. Both light up on my '04 vert. Here's a couple really bad pic's I just took for you to enjoy.

The bezel around the buttons is really easy to remove, then a torque screw holding them in, and there's just a little plug on each button if you need to remove them...IF I remember correctly.

...And Welcome to the CAC party!!:beer

Thanks for both welcomes.. Looks like there is a bulb that's soldered in..hope I cad find one and avoid replacing the switch

There is a single bulb that is in a plastic base. To change, just remove the switch by using a very small screwdriver under the edge and pull it toward you. It should come out easily. Next, unplug the wiring connector. If you look at the back of the switch you will see a hole. The bulb base has a slit in the center for a flat blade screwdriver. Remember lefty loosie. The bulb is not soldered in. The bulb has two filament wires that are bent into place. You will need to cut the new bulb wires to the right length. Hope this helps, PM or email me with any questions. Here is a picture of a couple of C5 bulbs. The originals had a blue bulb cover to make the light more "white". If you use Radio Shack 272-1092 bulbs they should look identical in color and brightness. They come 2 to a pack and are cheap at only about $2. If you want good used OEMs with the base and blue cover I can point you to someone on the Corvette Forum. Since the switch is all by itself and not like the DIC which has several bulbs any small difference in color should not be noticed. Mr. Sam
