This is hard to put in exact words, but... if you have one of these, you'll understand. As you know there is the darker silver bottom and the lighter silver top on the 25th. This post is regarding the correct positioning of the 'dark' silver stripping on the car. The darker 'pin-stripe' goes around the entire car @1/2" above the solid darker bottom. My question is regarding the correct position of this stripe on the nose of the car. I was at the 50th anniv in Nashville and noticed a discrepancy of the correct position of this dark stripe on the nose of several cars. One car I saw (NCRS award winner) had the dark silver stripe on the top portion of the nose... and the 25th anniv model at the NCM had the dark stripe positioned below the center of the nose. Which is correct? My dark pin-stripe is above the center of the nose... but the car was repainted prior to my ownership. FYI... all pin-stripes are actually painted on my car; I consider this a plus. This is the second 25th anniv edition I have owned and the tape always pulled away on the original stripes of my first one.

And... are there supposed to be dual pin-stripes on the sport mirrors? I have seen both stripes and no stripes on other 25th editions. Was this an option or am I missing these? Sold my previous 25th anniv edition over 15 years ago and forgot if it even had these stripes on the mirror.

Thanks in advance... Brian

I have the nose decal above the center of the nose. And I have dual pin-stripes on my sport mirrors as well. :D

Here's a decent pic of the front of my '78.

BTW, It is a bad day when I took the pic, I know, but I took this picture when I bought her and it was february. So excuse the weather in the picture. :)

Fishman,

The attachment is from one of my Corvette Reference books..

Thanks for the replies...

I was going to attach a picture of the one at the NCM... but I have exceeded some sort of file limit. Anyway, the stripe is definitely (and incorrectly) below the peak of the nose on that one. Guess it kind of threw me off a bit.

Painted pinstripes

Like yours, my 78SA has everything masked and painted on with clear over everything. Very smooth.

I just checked mine in the garage, and the dark silver band is AT the midline of the vette, all the way around. Nose, fenders, doors, quarter panels and rear, where there is an angled edge. The mid-line stripe is just above the angled break, so on my vette's nose, it is on top.
Mine also has only one pinstripe around the mirror edges and none around the side vents, but I understand there is supposed to be a pinstripe of the light silver outlining them. My original paint job looked just like the paint job that is on it now.

Heidi... your car looks great! My paint job is still pretty decent. Minor things here and there that only I notice when washing and waxing. My big issue is that the previous owner had no sense of distance. The front end has some spider cracks in the center and tips of the bumper. I had to get a bottle of touch up to take care of a few larger dings as well. Nothing you can see from more than a foot or two away, but noticeable nonetheless. I asked about repainting the nose only, no one would guarantee a good match. Additionally, I checked on the ‘bras’, but really don’t like the fit and look. The ‘mini-bras’ they sell for the C4 would be great, but no one makes them for a C3. So… guess I’ll just live with that for a while.

stripes

There are supposed to be stripes around the outside rear view mirrors?

Does anyone have stripes over the fenders front and back?

My SA has stripes over the fenders. It is a double stripe with the ends connected to form a point. My points are very sharp because they were masked and painted, not stripe tape with blunt point ends. The stripes follow the curve of the front and rear fenders with the stripes being below the peak edge of the curves.
There is also a stripe and surrounding pinstripes on the hood delineating the cowl section.

So... the sport mirrors should have pinstripping (dual). What is the width of each stripe (same, or is one larger?) and how far apart should they be from each other?

I couldn't find the pinstripping for the mirrors on any web sites... guess I'll have to make them.

Fishman, you might have to buy the whole decal kit, but the stripes are available. Check out Mid-America and Ecklers. They have what you are looking for.

Tried them both (and others)... $300 for the entire kit. :(

I just need the $2 stripes.

Fishman, you might be in luck. I need the rear decal (just got the rear repainted). And I'm thinking that I will (or the body shop) need to buy the whole kit. So, I'm sure I'll have the mirror pin-striping left over. I'll tell you what, when I get all this worked out with my body shop guy I'll send you a PM and give you the info. I'll definitely need the decal, and I'm not sure if he can just get the separate one I need. In that case, I'll just mail you the mirror one.

I'll talk to you tomorrow about it. Ok?

I bought my stripe kit from mid america. The fender lip stripes didn't fit real well but everything else did and you can buy individual stripes from them. Call and have the sales rep look it up and they all were available last year when I got the whole kit. The assembly manual tells you where to put the stripes.

Good Luck

Bill

Bill, did you put them on yourself? Is that something one if us "ordinary" owners can do?

Sorry it took so long to answer I have been gone again.

Yes I did put the stripes on my self and I only cussed a little. Find a place inside out of the wind and start with the small stripes so you can get used to how they work. The factory assembly manual tells you where each one goes. I did mine outside and the wind was blowing a little so I got a few wrinkles. Do the hood decal last and make sure it's inside and the hood is cool. Mine was hot so it stuck hard as soon as it hit.

I just had my bumbers painted yesterday, just the Silver part. It came out great, I had the shop put on the front & back stripe. He got 20' peice for about $25. Matched real well.

Could one of you guys or gals take and post a picture of your outside sport mirror? I would like to see a stock set of stripes and be able to determine the width of each stripe (is one wider than the other?) and the location on the mirror.

It would be MUCH appreciated.

Later friends... Brian

The stripes are equal width and the carrier strip lines up with the back edge of the mirror. The seam is on the bottom in the center. I'll take a picture of mine when I get home tonight.
