Getting Service Vehicle Soon message on '99 DIC following gas fillup with no stored codes.

Previous owner was getting these too and was told by dealer to ensure that the gas cap is on tight. I tighten it until it starts ratcheting. Is there a trick to tightening the cap beyond the ratcheting point?

My wife is getting the same thing on her 2001 Sunfire and was told by a different dealer, after 2 visits, that they may have to replace the rubber o-ring on the cap if it happend again.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Hi there,
If that was the case, you may have a code 440, 442,446 in the PCM module.
Please let us know what you have for codes, and we can proceed.
Allthebest, c4c5:hb

Unless there is something wrong with the PCM there has to be a stored code...they must have looked for a current code when they should of looked for a HISTORY code.

As c4c5 stated the Evap codes or?

I would take it back and tell them to look at HISTORY codes (they should have known this)

If there are no history codes who ever looked at the car was intimidated by it (diagnosing it) and cleared the history...I see this trend with mechanics who don't know these cars ...get paid **** for diagnostic times and GM wants to pay less and less on warranty claims...their goal right now is to save 25% on warranty claims...guess who's pocket it comes out of?

There were no stored PCM DTCs. In the past this condition reset itself after a few trips.

If your playing with a scan tool I'm sorry you don't know what your doing or your mechanic doesn't or is lying and reset it.... IT DOES NOT GO AWAY OR RESET ITSELF.....IT IS IN THE HISTORY, period, unless the computer is screwed up........IT IS THERE.

I don't own a scan tool. I was reading the DTCs on the DIC. In any event I reset all the codes (they were all with an H suffix) and the message on the DIC is gone.
