I have the 89 blk vette with the possible spun bearing. Read all my previous posts. the car, inside and out, is in great shape, BRAND new 4 tires, new 50 series flo's, and a new cat (not installed yet). fresh tune up, fule pump, filter, distributor control module, cap & rotor. I have yet to remove the oil pan to acess the damage (if any). I am not sure if i should sell?? advise please

How many miles on the car.

What is going on to determine a possible spun bearing?

Chuck

the car has 77K and when the car gets to running temp, the oil pressure drops to 6-7 psi and there is a slight noise from the engine compartment. At first start up (cold) the oil psi is well above 45psi and there is no noise. at this point, i do not drive the car any longer

Sometimes the car oil pressure guage is off. The first thing is to verify the oil pressure by using an external one. If the readings are the same, then it could just be the oil pump and/or screen. That could make the oil pressure dive when warm forcing noise from the bearings with little oil.

You were smart not to drive it anymore.

You didn't say knock, so it's probably less than you think.

I would think it would be worth a little time before trying to sell a Corvette with an unexplained noise in it. People will want to take advantage of that hoping for the best.

I'm sure they'll be plenty to follow from others.

i was gonna say the same thing possibly clogged oil pump or the pump is starting to go bad? i don't know how hard it is on vettes to check the pump but you may get away with jacking the motor up and pulling the pan out to get to the pump. if you can do this you will be able to visibly check the bearings.

hope all goes well!

BTW my 87 on start up first one of the day has around 50-65 psi range.
