So, I have been toying with getting an 82. I want a 700R4 and power locks and windows. I have always LOVED the C3 body cars. The last one I had was just a blast. Its just too bad that being here in Germany would not be ideal for that car- the roads, parking, weather. Those are just some of many reasons I sold it.
Anyways, I have been on the Crossfire forum (there actually is one!!) and I have been looking into how to improve the CFI system. I looked at X-rams, Offenhausers, and even the Edelbrock cross ram. But, I have been more interested in keeping the look but with true MPFI capabilities. Then it hit me-
USE A TPI MANIFOLD AND A SET OF SUPER RAM RUNNERS!!!
By using the TPI manifold you can get the usage of the fuel rails, injectors, etc. That would cut down on the cost dramatically by using off the shelf components. Obtain a set of those runners used for the HUGE Accel upper plenum. If you couldn't do that, you'll need to machine some from regular TPI runners. Then, fab up an upper plenum. Then, machine off the injector assemblies from the throttle bodies. Essentially, all you are using the TBI assembly is for the IAC and TPS.
You would be stuck with a speed density system. It would be very tall. I would bet it wouldn't fit under an 84's hood and MAYBE only under the 82 with the fresh air chamber removed. Man would that be slick- using the CFI air box with a custom plenum and runners. Hmmmmm....
Good idea or bad? Unrealistic or what?
