The ignition system in our LT-1/4 engines is constantly dissed due to moisture in the opti. Had a little moisture happen yesterday in the form of a sci-fi squall line that lasted about 45 minutes. It's been a bit damp in Dixie.
Visibility went to 10 feet so into the mall parking lot we go. There was no interval between the lightning bolts and BOOM all around. That was about as hard as it can rain. Rivers developed on the asphalt as I went to higher ground. The hail started popping so I pointed for home. This was the crucible for the ignition system. I halfway expected the engine to die at any moment.
The opti-spark paranoia hit after making it into the garage so I popped the hood to see how much water was present in the danger zone. Delighted to find a bone dry engine compartment with no ill effects following the submarine duty. I guess the vented design is pretty good even after all the bashing. Can't recomend boating in the vette but it's not a disaster to get caught in the weather either.
