Forced air induction idea?

What would everyone think about this set up? I am just trying to see if this would help at all. Would the second mod help or hinder? I am thinking it would allow more air to enter the radiator area on top of what comes throught the air dam. I am also thinking it might change the path of the air that normally comes through the air dam causing less air or unequal air.
Any thoughts?

It's hard to tell where that first thing you linked to goes. Does that box mount on top of the factory air filter location, and the ET neck thing just stick down? Or does that ET neck go to the throttle body?

You have to remove the original air cleaner box completey. The vortex air rammer replaces it. a hole has to be cut on the shroud the original air filter box sits on. the rammer sits on top of the hole to take in the air.

I looked at the link you had. does it use the stock air filter box? did you have to cut the shroud?

The Vortex system seems to be a pretty good system but the high cost of it may prevent many from buying it. It really makes sense that it would provide cooler air. I personally don't know if it would show up on the dyno since our C4's are bottom breathers and that's where the it would get that air from.

I'm positive a few folks here have the Vortex system here. You may also ask the C5 forum because it was originally designed as a C5 item and then made for the C4.

Check out doing a quick lower cost mod like an open air lid and a k&n filter,
it cost me 25.00 for a lid on e-bay( although I just checked and there were none :ugh ) the filter is approx 50.00 but will last a lifetime. I saved my
origional box just in case I get judged N.C.R.S someday.
By the way did you know Tom Cochran was a Canadian eh?

Well, The lid is already open on my car because i've heard of the benefits. but I will eventually get the air rammer set up. As alot of people have stated, the C4 is a bottom feeder. The open lid and k&n is good idea to open things up a bit more but you're still collecting warm air in the engine bay. i think the air rammer is good to get cooler air from the bottom. the additional intake in the front license plate area I guess is my question here.

Get the first mod, not the second. I would think if you got the second and you drove that in the rain you would be in some serious trouble. I have Ram Air and I did definetly feel a better pull above forty. and now with the headers, and what not I have done I am sure it helps. That and it sounds fricken badazz standing in front of the car. All you hear is wooooosh as it sucks in air.

You're correct about the open air lid method. It does draw more air through the area but that area is hot air and cold air is friendlier to make power with.

I don't know about the license plate thing. It would be difficult to measure that thing unless you're at speed, like Vettefan said. You'll need to get up to speed to get that air pushed in there enough.

Definitely go with the Vortex, IMO. In fact, when I do get my LT4, I'm going to get a Vortex for it.

It also looks a lot better then the POS stock lid, and mine the little knobs were all busted too so I said what the heck, and bought it for my first mod. I got the clear lid which I like better then the black one.

Edmond, I have been weary of the effects of water scooping through the plate as well. But I was curious if the plate was even worth it for the effects of air. Considering all the options, I probably will pass on the front license plate vent.

The vortex is a neat system have it on my car works great. I had my sensor relocated to the box.

I looked at the link you had. does it use the stock air filter box? did you have to cut the shroud?

It uses the stock air filter bottom and stock filter. It replaces the lid. You do have to cut the shroud, and then it sticks down in front of the upper part of the radiator. There is also a little piece you pop-rivet in place under the upper chin to help air flow into the radiator. It does affect the cooling a little, but I never had a problem with it.

It also came with little stuff like a template for cutting the shroud, and some adhesive foam to line around the ram-air part for a tighter fit, and it had some pop-rivets for the little chin thing. I always liked SLP. I also had their intake runners on the car.

The one I show here is one that I got, but it was for later C4's, had to let it go.

As for the functional model, I have a VaraRam on my Z06. I have before and after time slips that demonstrate 0.3-0.4 second and 3-4MPH improvement at the strip in the 1/4 mile. Water intake could be an issue, but rain does not seem to be enough to bother anything. I think that it would take a very large splash or deep standing water to cause engine damage. The few cases that I have heard about involved driving a car through deep standing water (a rain gutter during a very heavy downpour).

TPIS cermaic coated headers. The fit was deacent, I did have to notch out some stuff, but overall a relatively easy install.

That is some really impressive gains you got there Jim To bad it looks like it is C5 specific from what I could find, nice setup :cool
