I was wondering what the difference between smc and other types of fiberglass construction there are, is there any way for me to tell what type of construction was used for the pannel i took off. or for a 1976 corvette, as I want to make sure it matches. once it is painted will any one be able to tell SMC vs Press molded.

these are the 2 pannels I am looking at if you have any other suggestions I am open to other providers, is there much of a difference between these 2 pannels?

Thanks

Drew

All the original panels on a '76 were press-molded SMC, smooth on both sides; the SMC press-molded replacements are similar, but not molded under the same pressure - if the replacements are smooth on the back side, nobody will know the difference (as opposed to hand-laid, which are of uneven thickness and rough as a cob on the back side). SMC fiberglass requires unique bonding adhesive - polyester bonding adhesive won't work on SMC.
