Hi all,

I just finished replacing the center console bezel in my my 81 to replace the aftermarket clarion stereo with a "new" 81 am fm stereo delco unit that i lucked out on finding at Carlisle last month.
Stereo looks and works great, but inadvertantly when installing the new bezel (PIA) the radio faceplate touched the contact on the clock, and sparked and now the clock does not work (I know I should of disconnected the battery)

Not a big deal, but any suggestions to fix this,or what i may of done to cook the quartz clock?

Did you check the fuse to see if its blown????
or is it the clock in the radio????

I'm assuming your clock was a quartz clock and not OEM electric. You can check your clock by removing it and applying 12 current to the positive and negative terminals on the clock itself. You may have cooked it though. They are sensitive.

As for clocks, I have the OEM clock on my 80. It works- and works well- but that is a rare thing. They are electric movement and have a reputation for being unreliable. I've owned two C3s and this is the first clock that works. :W

By now, most of the OEM clocks are dead and gone! So, you are in good company if yours doesn't work.

Bill,

I didnt check the fuse, because i believe the same fuse that controls the clock (not in the radio) also works the courtesy, dome and other dash gauges, and they all work.

I may be wrong on that though, only wish that it was that easy.

Ken

Not all OEM clocks where the old style electric, some were quartz. Go to Mid-America or any of the other Corvette parts places and buy the quartz replacement clock. Not that expensive. P.S. - my 81 OEM clock is Quartz.
