On my 81 there is a body mount in the front nose under the emblem.I want to replace it but I can't seem to find it in any catalog. Would it be the same as the other body mounts? It didn't come in the body mount kit that I got. anybody know where I could get one?

body mount

I did not know there was a body mount in the front . MY 1972 has no body mount in the front , i have the steel bumpers, maybe the plastic front ends do ,or it might be just something some one put up there to keep the nose from shaking. not a bad ideal.but if there is one i would like to know where to get one. It looks like a regular rubber body mount and it has the same bolt and caged nut. I never hear any body mention a 9th mount but, it's on my 81. Maybe it was just this model? I have the body lifted off the frame to do some work on the body mount supports and would like to replace it but not sure what to use.

Photo?

I haven't seen that mount available anywhere. maybe GM. I've got mine off now, too for replacing the rest of the mounts..I'm wondering how much weight the mount is supposed to support? Mine was up so much that it pulled the header bar loose from the headlight area.

I've got one also on my 1980. I to cannot find it. Its right in the middle behind the vacuum canistor.

Steve,

I believe I found the bushing you are refering too. Page Section 14A, page 2 of the 1981 Assembly Manual. The part number is 3842913, a check with your local Chevrolet Dealer may find it, or if another dealer somewhere still has one on their shelf somewhere.

The part # could be discontinued, but I've found that my local Chevrolet dealer can usually take the old number and cross it to a valid number and then it's a crap shoot if they still have the part..

Good Luck

Bud

you also might want to check places like corvette central,or ecklers ect.

good luck

www.ecklers.com does have body mount kits....

That cushion was GM-discontinued about four years ago; the one below it (item #8, 2914) is still available, but not the upper cushion; the 2913 is not included in any body mount kit I'm aware of.

How did you take the body off of the frame? I have a 79 vette and we had to break all the body mounts off. I can't just lift the body off the frame can I? I am worried about cracking the fiberglass?

When I pulled my body off I used my engine cherry picker. I went around to each mount and lifted them by hand. Then used two crank straps, looped them through the pickers hook and crabbed the bottom of the bird cage and picked it up.
I also had the motor pulled, interior out, gas tank out, etc.

I used a chainfall and the lifting straps that I bought from one of the corvette catalogs. You will need at least 12' of height if you do it this way. The straps hook under the doors and lift it evenly then I rolled the frame out from under it and lowered the body onto a dolly that I built. Then I could easily roll it around to work on it.
