front surround

How is the front surround attached on a 69. It need to be adjusted a little, I do not know much about body work. Any help would be appreciated. It was taken off at one time but it was not put on very well, the door gaps are tight on the bottom ane loose on the top.

The surround is bonded at the top and sides of the cowl. It's not adjustable withoug breaking it back loose. As far as your door gaps, what kind of shape are your hinges in, and have you tried adjustment there? Tight at the bottom and loose at the top sounds like sagging doors. If you're not familiar with body work, don't even thing about busting a front end loose to adjust the fit.

Thats correct.Also depending on how much of a gap is at the top ,it may be factory.Ive seen alot of vettes that have wide gaps at the tops of the doors.Its a common problem.

It does not appear to be the doors, just a bad job reinstalling the front surround at one time, It has a hack paint job on it. I am just curious, not that I am going to do it, but how do you remove the front surround. Do you just pry the panel off where it was bonded? I looked under the front wheel well and can see some of the bonding and it appears to be pretty brittle and coming off. How hard is it to remove. I would like to learn body work next as I am pretty good mechanically.

It is bonded about an inch or so below the crown that is the highest point of the fenders.If you really wanted to remove it ,I suggest you strip the paint in that area (chemically or mechanically).Eventually you will see a 1 inch stripe down the side .Thats where its bonded.
