I'm getting ready to install a fuel cut-off in my 74. Any suggestions on where to mount it??? I want to mount the toggle in the storage compartment box on that side. The switch I've got also has wiring to connect to the ignition. Will this pose a problem???

This is for an aftermarket electric fuel pump?

Do you intend to shut it down everytime you park it, or only when you are leaving it in a questionable area that you are worried about theft?

How big is it?

Can you attach a picture of it, and I will share some of my ideas?

No, its the stock fuel pump. Here's a picture & thanx for your reply...

You must mean stock tank, and aftermarket pump. At least I have never seen a stock pump for a Vette look like that. Your year model should have a mechanical pump bolted on the right lower front side of the block.

Second question. Do you want quick access in the event of a fire or hazard, or do you want it hidden for theft purposes?

If for fire, get a covered saftey latch switch and mount it under the dash between the hood release and trip odometer lever.

If for theft...HIDE it anywhere--like in a rear cubby, under the dash out of view, in the ash tray, etc. etc.

69myway...

I'm looking to hide it in case of theft. I'll probably mount it in the right side rear storage box with the lock on the latch. Should I then route the ignition wires along the right side frame rail??? The instructions say I can splice it into anything that runs from it. Any suggestions on what to hook it into???

Is that a solenoid valve, or an electric pump?

Joe

sort of looks like a solenoid valve, maybe he is going inline to the pump to stop fuel.

I guess I am confused as well. Is that a pump or a valve?

In any event, you can usually trip the ground or power to activate/deactivate.

I would suggest you trigger the ground.

Since this is for theft purposes, don't tell any of use where you put it. That way, it will be a secret.

However, you clearly have a vast amount of options you can go with.

Where did you get the solenoid valve? Who makes/sells it?
I put one on my first 73 Vette in 1978 and am looking for one for my current Vette. The first unit was purchased from a outfit named Cahs, but I can't find them now.
I mounted the solenoid valve beside the gas tank. The switch was mounted under the dash almost where the throttle cable goes thru the firewall: couldn't see it but I could reach it with my index finger.

I found this one off eBay. Someone had it for awhile and never ended up using it. It was never opened. The instructions looked a bit dated. I wouldn't be surprised if it is off the market now. I hope it still works. By the way, its a valve not a pump.

69myway, is there any particular reason to hook it into a ground & not a live (hot) wire???

Is there a name and/or address on the box or instructions?
What category in ebay was it located?

It was a "cahs" brand item. As I said, it looked pretty dated. I found it in the "parts & accessories" directory of eBay Motors.
