LT1 Fuel Filter location

Here are the basic instructions for replacing the fuel filter. You should get a shop manual of some type, they don't cost much and will save a lot of time and money. This is straight from the shop manual and I have not done this procedure yet so I cannot verify its accuracy, be careful:

On 1992 and later vehicles the right catalytic converter is located next to the fuel filter. It will be necessary to allow the vehicle to cool for a minimum of one hour before attempting to service the fuel filter. The battery must be disconnected to prevent shorting the starter and the starter electrical components also located near the fuel filter. Expect minimum fuel spillage of up to one quart during filter service. Perform step 1. first.

1. Relieve fuel pressure. Remove fuel pump fuse located in the right end of the dashboard. Start engine and run until engine dies from lack of fuel. Crank engine over a few times to get as much fuel out of system as possible.

2. Loosen fittings around both ends of fuel filter. Use two wrenches so you don't gall the flared fittings.

3. Replace filter with new one making sure the arrow on the filter is pointing toward the engine.

4. Reverse steps for removal and don't forget to replace the fuse and plug in the battery.

Gasoline is extreamely flammable so take extra precautions when you work on any part of the system. Don't smoke, allow open flames or bare light bulbs near the work area etc.

Good luck...

The above post is absolutly correct. It is not difficult at all, I was concirned I would have trouble with the fittings being frozen to the origional filter, it was not the case and it came loose easily. The most difficult and frustrating part is gettine the mounting bracket reinstalled, that took forever !!

Thank you very much.........I will give it the old
