fuel grade and brand

hnoeshey there everyone! Up here in Canada,
maybe a stupid question i have been told by several other z owners they run SHELL 91 v-power grade gas in there cars with no issues. general recommends 93. I am pouring in SUNOCO ultra 94 in my z and she runs great. but if i can get the same bang for the buck and convience I would use the SHELL product. Any others with some technical answers or recommendations??????

I've always used 91 and have never had an issue. I just fill up on post, not sure what brand it is, I guess you could call it the US Army brand?:L

All I can get in Arizona is 91 and the car runs fine. I have run 93 in it when I went to Bowling Green, Ky and really didn't notice a difference.

I use BP 93 octane normally, but when I'm visiting family in Kansas the best I can find is BP 91. I drive pretty hard and really don't notice the difference.

However a few ago my girlfriend put 89 octane, "I'll pump you go grab some coffees and pay" <rolling eyes>. I nailed it getting back on the hi-way and pinged and knocked like crazy. Eventually the computer reset it's octane tables and all was fine, but wow, I'll never do that again.

Since the early 00s, GM has calibrated for 93-octane fuel. If you have access to 93 or 94, keep using it.

When you run 91, you'll see some knock retard and in warm weather or high ECT and/or IAT, you'll see a lot of it.

Generally, down here in the States, if you're west of the Rockies, 93 is nearly impossible to find. This is because back in the late 90s the oil refiners and the pipeline companies agreed to stop sending 93-oct fuel to the western U.S.

I assume that you have access to Irving in Ontario ?? It's probably superior to anything else you can buy in eastern Canada .It's refined and formulated right there .It' hasn't been run via pipelines and it has no alcohol that I know of.

Edmond you can tell by the color ,is it olive green?

aafes gas isn't bad but I prefer shell, chevron, 76 in that order. WA doesn't have BP although they have amco(am/pm) and it is a version of bp. I will get aafes gas if I have to but it is usually more expensive and not as good.

Corvette specifies 91 octane or better.

That being said, you should also check out Top Tier Gasoline as this will tell you which fuels have the best detergency in your region.

Detergency is critical to the overall health of your fuel system, and how WELL your engine performs.

How about running a bottle of injector cleaner through it every oil change? Would that help?
