I am curious as to what, if any, injector cleaners are in use in your C5's. I think I close to stabilizing the crumbling of mine, and now am focused on some preventative maintenance.

Is it a good idea to run a bottle of injector cleaner through my C5, if so what do you recommend.

Thanks,

Mick

I put STA-BIL in my tank in the winter and add also a extra few shots [of Sta-bil] here and there year-round. I only use Premium gas, it should have enough cleaner in it so an additive cleaner is not needed. I don't get to drive too much these days and this seems to work for me. Been using this method on motorcycles for 25 years. It beats the heck out of draining it down.

Hi there,
While there are many additives that do many different things, the questions is what type of additive are you looking at.
Stabilizers only prevent fuel from breaking down, evaporating and causing harsh white deposits left over afterwards.
While any injector cleaners can be used, chemical composition differs substantially from one to another.
Fact of the matter is, fuel formulations are so horrible, that many drivability concerns arise from simply the gas, not actual deposits.
12345515 is what I have found to reduce and eliminate in 95% of all cases, deposits and fouling that causes rough idle, stumbling and the like. After using BG44K, which is an excellent carbon reducing formula, it doesnt always clean injectors completely.
Recently, there was a TSB issued on cleaning injectors from GM, and a specific formulation of fuel and 1050002, is added to a pressurized canister, and then the car is run to completion.
This will clean out all other deposits not addressed by the tank additive.
Tolene is a very high strength solvent, and is NEVER to be used. Although some say it will not cause problems, we have seen shorted injector windings, at higher temperatures.
Basically, when at ambient temperatures, the injector will test ok. However, once the engine gets to operating temperature, the higher resistance is outside of GM specification, thus creating incorrect spray patterns.
Normally, 12345515 every six months will serve you well, and prevent any problems.

What is 12345515? Is that the GM # for fuel injector cleaner? And should I be able to get it at any Chevy or GM dealer?

I second the motion.
What is it ??

Hi there,
12345515 is a fuel system cleaner, which when added to a full 19 gallon tank, either c4 or c5 will reduce fuel injector deposits or carbon buildup in your engine.
It can be purchased at any GM dealership.
On any vehicle, it will assist in the fuel system maintenance, by reducing carbon deposits, and solid formations on your injector pintles.
List is 12.02 as of this writing.

Thanks c4c5specialist I do appreciate the info.

if you are ever in Tampa drop me a line I will buy you a beer.

hello c4/c5 spec,
i used the BG44K because my engine had major knocking problems, also cleaned the throttle body, the knocking cleared up about 90%,the rest is due to the 91 octane in hawaii, what do you think about the stuff(?) you suck in the PCV system while car is running, let stall, sit over night then fire it up in the morning?i have seen the clouds of smoke the next day and thought that must work but is it safe?if you started in hawaii(i would hook you up)you could take a vacation all the way to the east coast with all the friendly offers that are offered to you.thanks for the advise, later,Todd.

Hi there,
BG44K is most effective when added to a full tank of fuel. When you run through the PCV system, the effect is not as pronounced.
Honestly, I do not believe that it is the fuel there, just add a bottle of the 12345515 from your local GM dealer, and I think it will assist in your concern.

Thanks for the info c4c5specialist

I have about 22K on mine and I was thinking about what to do about cleaning my fuel system.

12345515 got it:_rock

Maybe I'm just dumb, but is the most effective way to clean out the carbon in the cylinders and clean the fuel system is to first use a tankful of gas with BG44K, following it with a tankful of gas with the 12345515? Does this obviate the need to do the overnight decarbonization? Or should the decarbonization really be the first step?

Thanks for your help C4C5!

Hi there,
Unfortunately, every c5 is different in the carbon buildup department, because everyone is driven differently.
I would say that only after your 44k, and the 12345515, you still have a knock concern, then it will be time for the overnight decarbonization.

Carbon build-up would seem to be the bane of car owners existence. Since 1987, I have been using Chevron Supreme in the various cars that I have been driving. Per Chevron's claims, the Supreme product has the most amount of detergent (Techron/Techroline) of any U.S. refiner. Chevron also claims that Supreme is used by GM, Ford and Chrysler (before it was bought by a small german company) for emission certification. My personal experience with the Supreme gas is that I have driven in excess of 250,000 miles running the Supreme gas and have not had problems with carbon build-up (stalling, stumble, etc.). I am new to Corvettes; however, I am using the Supreme gas in my 2003. Hopefully, my luck will continue. If the Chevron Supreme is available in your area, you might consider it if you have had to go through a de-carbonization experience. P.S., I am not affiliated with ChevronTexaco in any way, other than as a consumer. I do not own ChevronTexaco stock, nor do I work for the company.

Thanks C4C5.

One more dumb question: What is BG44K, and where do I get it?
