Hey guys, I need some help w/ a fuel injector issue I'm having. This thread is related to my other thread "Intake oil leak" where I decided to replace my injectors after pulling my intake. I found some Bocsh injectors from FiveOmotorsports, but they are over 2.5 mm (about 1/4") shorter than my originals so both ends will not seat in the fuel rail and intake at the same time. I talked to Bruce @ FiveO and he is aware of this and told me that I need to center the injectors equally between the fuel rail and the intake in order for both O-rings to seal.

This doesn't sound like a good idea for the injectors to basically be floating in position. BTW, the original retainer clips are not to be used with the new injectors.

I know my old injectors were a b*#ch to get out. In fact the O-ring stayed in the fuel rail when I pulled them out. Maybe once they are in and get some heat to them, they'll stay secure?

Any advise would help, thanks

That doesn't sound like a very good solution to me either and I would worry about fuel leaking and no one would want fuel leaking under the hood where it could catch fire quite easily.

The originals were Bosch but the ones I got are Ford made injectors. The Pink tops are the Ford ones.

Which ones do you have?

The pink tops are Ford. I have to admit, I mis-calculated the difference in length. The pink tops are exactly 1/10" shorter than my originals, which is slightly less than 1/8". But maybe with the retainers in place on the originals it allowed the injector to hang in a stable position. I have repositioned the pink tops into a centered position and noticed that I can place the old retainer clips into the lowest groove of the injector then push it into the fuel rail and that seems to be a good center point. It doesn't keep it from falling out of the fuel rail (if that is possible under driving conditions), but it keeps the injector from coming out of the intake slot, going deeper into the fuel rail. Basically working against gravity.:eyerole

The other option I thought about was grinding off the tops of the posts on the intake where the fuel rail bolts down. This would lower the entire assembly, allowing the injectors to seat deeper into the intake.

I need time to think now......

I used all my clips with the pink tops. Clip them to the rail and install the rail and injectors at once. Coat the "O" rings with oil and the whole works should slide in. You may have to loosen the crossover tubes.

I think as long as both O rings are well into the bore no matter if they are all the way up or all the way down, there should be no problems. I really don't think they will float up and down as tight as they fit in the bores.

Yea, I decided to try the clips in the top groove of the injector and measures the distance from the fuel rail to the injector tip and it is the same as my originals. So I went ahead and installed them. I'm hoping for the best and should have it fired up (no pun intended) tomorrow.

Good work jerk! I really don't think that this will give you any trouble at all.

Let us know how it all turns out.

Have a great day,

Finished working on the car Sunday and she started right up on the first try. No problems with the new injectors. Regardless of what FiveO says about not using the original injector clips, I elected to reuse mine and locked them into the fuel rail slot like normal.

Thanksto everyone for the replies!

I'm back on the road!

How does she drive? Does it accelerate smoother?

I can't wait to put mine in.

I can't wait to put mine in.

I broke the EGR pipe during the operation and I have a hose clamp holding the two ends together until my new part comes in the mail. So, since it has an embarassing exhaust leak, I only drove it around the block and didn't really get on it. But it seemed to run fine.

I thought about making some mods while I was into the engine, but decided to put everything back as it was to make sure the car ran right. Now that I know it does (to some degree), I'll slowly start some modifications once I get the new EGR pipe. And that too, will eventually go, as well as the rest of the smog stuff when I get my headers.

Good luck with your install.:)
