I have a '91, where in the world is the fuel pressure regulator on these car's?
I'm having problems with idling, a slight miss from time to time, and smell gas every once in a while.

Right under the plenum towards the rear and passenger side.

I'm sorry to have to ask you this, but what does it look like my friend?

From the sounds of it your problems may be with the injectors, not the regulator. Sounds like you may be in need of new ones. One or more could be leaking, might be a good idea to check your fuel pressure and ohm the injectors. Also physically check around the injector seals at the fuel rail, it's possible you could just have a bad/leaking seal and that is why you're smelling fuel.
