Question: Fuel Pump and Scanner???

When I used my scanner to delete my PO420 code, I noticed something strange.

To use the scanner you plug it in and turn the key to the run position (but dont start the car). Normally the fuel pump runs for the most 3 seconds.

When the scanner is plugged in, the fuel pump runs for a good 20 sec to the point I get nervous and turn the key to the off position.

Does anyone have the same problem, know what causes it, and is it a problem for the fuel pump to run for 20 sec with the engine off?

In the ALDL where you plug your scanner in, IIRC there is a way where if you join 2 terminals your fuel pump comes on. Maybe the scanner does that for a set time?
