Just thought I'd throw this out.
If your fuel pump is getting on in age, I'll say near 150K miles think about trashing it before you end up waiting for a ride!
I waited until the latter.
I watched the guy do it since I was 400 miles from home. It took him 30 minutes to change and he had never did a vett pump before.
The biggest PIA was getting the gas door and 15yr old rubber bib back in place.
If you do it you can get the wiring upgrade and better pump for labor cost.

ps. it made 215k miles, from the first sputter til dead wasn't 5 miles
 
Thanks for pointing that out. We might also include here that it is never a wise thing to allow the fuel level to get too low in the tank because the pump relies upon the fuel to keep it cool. If the fluid level is low, the pump life will be shortened somewhat. I personally try not to let it get below a quarter-tank. ;)
