Just so you guy know it is best to store your car with a full tank of gas and some fuel stabilizer I know this because my tank is being replaced right now do to the rusting of the tank and sending unit . I have had the car two years and almost always store it with a full tank of gas. The two previous owners let the car sit for very long periods. So I must pay the price. Oh well

I feel your pain Pete. Even though I usually don't keep registration active on my car-- I still need to find a way to keep it "fresh". I try to make sure that I start the car at least once a month and fully warm it up and put a mile or two on it just to keep everything semi-fresh. It's almost like work. Though, I'm very thankful for this (small) chore!

Full tank of gas always and a dehumidifier! I never thought I had any type of moisture problem till I let a couple cars sit for more than month. To my surprise, any vinyl or pleather started to breakout with this hazy whitish schtuff. After cleaning everything up with a 1:100 bleach/water mix, I made sure to turn on the dehumidifier.

My fix is to run a fresh tank thru every month :D

Eric, how can you handle not driving the car? or do you just drive it with no tags? :D

Let just say that when it's driven-- it goes WAAAAY FAST! No passing "Go", no collecting $200...;)

Oh sure now you tell us when it's almost time to take the car OUT of storage. ;) I always make topping off the tanks on all the toys and adding Stabil part of the winter hybernation process. Along with a clean up, oil change, tire pressure check and disconnect of the battery. I'm of the school that it's best to let the car rest untouched once it's away for the winter rather than starting periodically. I don't believe you can get all the moisture cooked out of the block and exhaust unless you can take it for a ride which isn't possible in the NorthEast from Dec - April. Also, cold startup is hard on an engine.

Pete, your car is such a prestine low mileage ride it's amazing the tank is shot. It just goes to show that even if a car doesn't get driven it still deteriorates if not properly stored. I have no idea what the original owner of my car did or didn't do and he was not a car guy so I could have the same problem. I thought the tanks had a plastic bladder in them though? How did it rust?

Kevin I say this now being that my car is up at Callaway having a bunch of work done right now. They are going over the whole car and doing several mods.Well let me say that I was in no way neglecting my car . I will drive it on a clear day in the winter after a rainy day has washed the salt away. I almost always fill my tank. This was done by the previous owners. From what I was told the bladder does not cover the area where the sending unit is that is the weak point. If they continued with the bladder and had the bladder come to the lip of the tank I would not be having this problem.

Interesting... I always thought the bladder offered 100% coverage. Pete, I didn't mean to imply (if I did) that you neglect your car in any way. I was referring to the prior owners. I know you are VERY meticulous and careful with it, as I think most all of us current Callaway enthusiasts are. We're dealing with the results of some prior non-enthusiasts having owned these cars.

Kevin I did not think you were implying any type of neglect. I am just letting the internet community know that I take the very best car of my car and spare no expense doing it . Like I said my car had 2 previous owners . The first owner owned the car for 12 years and amassed 1800 miles the second owner had the car for a year and put 1500 miles on it.I have owned this car for 2 years and have spent a small fortune on the car nothing but the best treatment for it . You do not always know how the previous owners stored the car so I am paying the price now. Oh well a new tank sending unit and fuel pump are not that bad . It could have been worse.

Just curious... What led Callaway to even look at the tank? Were you having a problem with the sending unit? I'm starting to think I should check mine too but sometimes it's better to leave things alone. I don't want to create a problem as I don't have one now.

Fuel system

They noticed the problem when they were changing the fuel filter and it had alot of rust . So the folks at Callaway investigated further and opened the tank and found a bad problem with rust . So they also pulled all the injectors and found some particles in the screens . They ultrasonically cleaned them and flowed them and all is perfect with them . I protected me from a possible LEAN condition that could have been deadly for thr motor. All is well now and they are coninuing with my mods .

Pete, That is a great catch for them to find that - you are right in saying it could cause lean conditions at the very least.

Your car is going to be one heck of a (beautiful) beast :v :m

It is somewhat of a common problem with the C4 pickup units. I took mine out and checked it and replaced the o rings before I put it away for the winter. It is a very easy item to check. They will rot is several places where the metal tube is welded. Glad they found yours in time that it did no motor damage. Very Nice Car

picking up mine today( now)

oil leaks fixed, they also did fuel injecter treatment since they were out. intercoolers were all shined up and vents straightened. they always put in a new thermostat. $300 total bill, the leaks no charge from rebuild 3 yrs ago. they also put a film on nose for driving home on I95. i will try to buy some for future use. i have really noticed a wonderfull change in callaway's service and treatment. scott is a great guy to deal with. my tt is runinng "smooth and strong" they said.

p.s. scott drove to my house with joanne to pick up my car for the servicing. i live 54 miles from them.
