Filled up with gas at the weekend and a guy comes over and states that he loves 'vettes and has owned several and asked if he can look over my car. I was more than pleased to say "sure".
He then proceeds to tell me all about my car and said " I am sure that this car is very rare" Remember that my car is totally standard '81 apart from true duals. He then tells me that the V6 engines are very powerful and can generate up to 800BHP!!!:eyerole :eyerole
I then told him that 'vettes of this year are all V8's and this is a 350cu in. He told me that I am wrong!!! I tried to insist that my car is a V8 and he just wouldn't believe me, saying that all 'vettes are V6. At this point I started to lose interest and just wanted to get away from this idiot, but he asked me to lift the hood, so I reluctantly agreed and he then said " I can see your problem, you have had the engine replaced with a V8, nice work, but I would of kept the standard V6 because you have de-valued it by modifying it.":hb
At this stage I thought that I was banging my head against a brick wall and said, "so what 'vette do you have now?" and he said " one of the very first ones, it's a 1938 " I just said " ok thats lovely but must go now" :o :( . I have never met such a strange mixed up individual!!! ;LOL ;LOL

they are all over the place.

I was working on mine one day and the neighbor goes..."Is that a 69?" btw, my plate reads 8 SHARK 1. You just have to laugh at these people.

;LOL The ones I really get off on are the ones that come up and say "I had one just like this one.... What year is it!!" ;LOL or they ask what year is your Corvette... :duh Lic. Plate RARE 81

I don't see the problem here, my '39 Vette has been a great hit at car shows, along with my '82 Edsel!:grinshot

You mean my cars not a V6 ?? i was wondering what those extra spark plug wires were for . maybe I should hook them up now.

I had one guy at a car show with the same mentality that told me he had owned a 73 with a 327 ci. When I told him in a nice way the they only offer 3 engines that year a std 350(190 horse) opt. 350 (250 horse) and a 454 (275 horse). He said I must be wrong because he had a 327 in his and it wa offerd that year. I just smiled and said ok. You just have to smile and go on with some experts. What else can you say we cant change their minds even when you show the evidence to them

Take care.. I just had to put my 2cents worth...

Wow!!!!!!!!!! Isn't it amazing how some people will show their true knowledge when it comes to cars. Which reminds me of one time I was at a stock & custom show & this guy comes up to my 'vette & like you said, proceeds to tell me that he had one exactly like it & then asked me what year it is (my plate read, at the time, "72 TOY"). But, here's the clincher, he started to tell me about his car at the show & wanted to know if I'd go & check out his 1957 CHEVROLET IMPALA. When I told him that there was no such model (Impala) offered in 1957, he laughed at me & said come look. I did, like a dummy, & lo & behold he did, indded, have a 1957 CHEVROLET IMPALA (someone had taken off the bel-air label & replaced it with an Impala one). He still swore that it's a '57 Impala. Go Figure! BTW: Maybe you should put a V6 in your '81 to make it right....................NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;LOL :duh;LOL

After hearing all of this stuff, I need a :drink

I was showing my 34 Sedan (4 door), when a guy walked up and asked what engine was in the car. I told him it was a 350 Chevy, he said "Oh, a Corvette engine". I said Immm, yes and he said "Gee I didn't know they made Corvettes in the thirty's"...What could I say???
:crazy :confused :eek :duh ;shrug

Banana Heads

What really peeves me is the person who says nice vette! You know I had a friend or they know someone who got in a bad accident or died.. You know I really don't give a squat, or care to hear it.

When I had my '78 pace car it had the decals installed. I had several people ask me what year it was!!

It was a V-6 too!!

I was washing my Vette in the driveway when a guy pulled up and said "Nice Vette! I really love those cars. Wish I still had mine." I asked what year he had. He replied "'83"..................

It's hard to try and tell a person something when they already know everything. Just nod you head and leave!

BTW: I have a 1903 Pre 50th Anniversary Corvette. It was built as a advance celebration of the 1953 Corvette. It has a dual Inline V-4 engine. It rolled off the assembly line with the first Harley!

Thanks, It's one way to takecare of the little darlings on a long trip ;LOL

Maybe we should take the guy(s) that modified these vettes and take them for a ride on the hood!

Yeah.. I heard all about the two steel Corvettes.. and the guy that had one just like mine but totally different. (he had a 65, I have a 72)

My favorite of all though.. is the "put you in your place story."

1) The guy tells you he doesn't own a Corvette because "he'd drive like it was meant to be driven" and he'd goto jail or die in a firery crash. (he is too cool for a fast car and you are not cool enough seeing as how you're still alive)

2) They tell you about the guy they saw who had an older nicer, faster car that was full of hot chicks.

I'm also a big big fan of the year guessers. The guys who saw a car go by at 50mph and tell me it was a '76 with a big block.

I just wanna smack people sometimes. :bash

Yepper, I agree with Sherry there, loads o' nuts out there.. My plate says 82coled.. And has the colors and all... People still ask what year, and type of car.. Aeh, Above the Plate, Dude, that big silver badge.. Says CORVETTE on it.. And the 82 before that funky rest of the alphabet soup.. yeah, thats the cubic inch of my v6... ;help
Just smile and walk away, there is no convincing someone who KNOWS all about your car. If people arent willing to learn every day, there is nothing you can do. :duh

Paul,

Are you coming to the NCRS event this weekend in Kent?

I am bringing my 78 SA down for judging but I am concerned now about my V-8. If the factory put 800 hp V-6's in all years I don't think I am going to do very well. I had another guy tell me that I should have maroon paint on the whole side of my car. Because thats how all the anniversary cars were. Maybe they will be nice enough to point out all the obvious factory flaws on my car so I can get those thing right for next year.
