FYI on LT1/4 Edit

Yeah I'm aware of the EPROM size change over the years...but really that's irrelevant. The info I have shows LT1 through '93 and LT5 through '95 as using EPROM-based computers..be it ECM or PCM, and EPROM size doesn't matter (did I just say "size doesn't matter"! :L ). Maybe the info I have is wrong, I dunno...but I'd like to find out for sure.

Ostrich and Autoprom both are intended to replace an EPROM, as is my Prominator (www.speedtronics.net). The differences are that Craig's stuff is more of an "emulator", whereas Prominator is a more permanant Flash-based replacement.

;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

I dunno' for sure. I was under the impression that the LT1 used an EEPROM which wasn't accessible for removal. Never had the chance to "get to know" one. I went with the easy route (for me anyway) ... pull it ... reprogram it ... replace. Does the Prominator have data logging? I still have to plug up the "black box" decoder thing and run seperate software for data logging.

BTW those are some great pix up at the dam. I need to resize mine for posting.

Check out http://www.cruzers.com/~ludis

The Prominator does not do datalogging...it is strictly an EPROM replacement. The nice thing about it is you can put the ECM/PCM back where it belongs...not hanging in the floorboard.

Yeah it was tough getting good pictures at the lake...no matter what angle you tried from there was something in the way! A little sunlight might have helped too! [lol]

Jeff,

There is another option .... check out www.moates.net they have a all in one device that might be of intrest to you. It's called the Ostrich. They also make a device, the AutoProm, that can write to your PCM. Maybe worth a look.

C ya
:w

Thx man, I'll check it out...

Just got an email from TC @ www.tunercat.com

They have the new OBD2 software for $379 (identical to LT1 edit @ $450) so I'm definitely going to look into that...:)

BTW...Just got an over the phone quote of close to $2000 from Exotic Muscle for the Longtubes (& all accessories incl. bulllit cats) installed. Does that sound high or what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :W

The price sounds pretty normal :(
Do your research on headers and HP increases with your setup, I don't think they are worth the money as far as HP/$ goes. I'd rather save the 2 grand and put it towards a supercharger to get mega HP

$2000 is high. Headers should cost around $700, and a pair of Randomtech cats should be $320. EM can add pipe extensions to hook up to Corsas for DIY, but an exhaust shop can do the work for a couple hundred.

The big kicker here is the labor to install the headers. It is a lot of hours, most exhaust shops and mechanics won't touch the job, and people usually do it themselves. That is where you would save off the $2000 price tag.

Headers will really make the Hotcam work for you.

A tuner worth his bucks will have LT1 edit for his unlimited use. Be very suspicious of anyone who doesn't have it. It costs them money for the license, but it's a business, right?

Good food for thought...:dance

Ditto on the "food for thought" thing...

Thx

I want headers on the car...I just need to prioritize my mods as well as my finances.

Lots to think about here...

I think I was quoted 10 or 12 HRS. labor on my header install. I think it will be done right if Exotic Mussel dose the work. You get what you pay for.

That's reasonable for the labor involved. Most people don't live near enough to Exotic Muscle to have it done by them. Any shop that isn't a Corvette specialist is afraid to take on this kind of work, expecting to lose money on the labor for unknown glitches. Just like a lot of race shops will only do one cage install, after one it's no more Corvettes.
