Got home to find the balance of parts needed for last nights activity.

The idler arm was childs play, a good warm up for the main course.

The power steering cylinder and control valve popped off with little resistance after 20 yrs
of service on my '81. When I went for the hoses hanging off the power steering pump
I saw the source of my leak from last fall.

The lower hose was deteriorated down to the windings inside (cord?). the other hose
was full of splits in various spots. All this was hidden inside the hard bend the hose takes
heading to the control valve. When I was under there cleaning and looking for the source
of the leak the hoses looked great from the side you can see!!!!

Moral of the story is to get your finger inside the hose bends and feel for splits.

Steering feel is back to new car firm. Kidda shocked me at first. After 10 years of driving
this one I had grown used to the easy movement it had developed after 20 yrs.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Hoses

John,

I think I'm looking at the same thing on my wife's '81. Hoses look good but I suspect just what you found. At least that is where I'm starting and I hope finishing.
