Gas Tank Strap Q

I'm replacing my tank with a kit purchased from Ecklers and I'm concerned about the way the straps fit around the tank support bracket. The photo shows what I'm dealing with.


I have 2 problems:
1. the strap seems about 1/2" too short - or do I just need to be more muscular?

And 2. it looks as though the strap ends are about to puncture the tank.

Am I doing something dumb, or do I perhaps have the wrong straps?

The straps fit the other way around with the 'hook end' facing outwards. Use long bolts to draw the strap tight, then substitute the correct bolts.

Well thats what I thought too but I can't see how the right angled end with the welded nut will fit if I turn the strap over. Also, the way I've installed the strap is the orientation shown in the assembly manual. I'm just saying that it doesn't seem to make much sense.

I see your point. Try mounting as per the AIM and use a long bolt to draw the straps into proper shape. The hooks on yours appear much longer than on mine.
