Gasket on K & N airfilters

I have two questions.
1) Do you need to install the gasket that comes with the air filter?
2) How do you access the lower part of the airfilter housing to put the gasket on?

thanks

I did not use the gasket on my filter installation and have had no problems.

The gasket is there to prevent any air leaks around the filter. If you don't use it, you may never have any problems - but then you may.

The air box can be removed from the car to install the gasket. Disconnect the air bridge hose, then go to the front of the car, push the air box straight to the rear, it will pop off the two pins the keep in in place.

I was told the gasket is for F-Body LS1's and not needed on the C5. ????

It's your car and your gasket, do what you want to with it.

Thank you for your help. I will be pulling out the box. Does it take much force to remove the lower housing?

;stupid I have had mine on for 1.5 years and no problems

I took my airbox out when I installed the K&N, just to see if it needed the gasket and it definately fit better with it. After about 6 months I took it apart again and "dremeled" the lid open and the gasket doesn't make the filter feel too tight or compressed.

No expert advice, just my experience
