Gasket on K & N airfilters
I have two questions.
1) Do you need to install the gasket that comes with the air filter?
2) How do you access the lower part of the airfilter housing to put the gasket on?

thanks

I installed the gasket on the K&N on my 98. Are you talking about the K&N filter that is the stock replacement{that is the type I have} or the one the replaces the whole stock air box? The one that replaces the stock type you only have to put the gasket on the K&N and replace it just like replacing the stock filter. The rest of the air box stays the same.

interesting that I heard the exact opposite. That the K&N gasket if for F-Body LS1's and not the C5 ?????

I believe if it was for just the F body it would've said so on the directions. Anyway it fit mine ok.

Thank you for your help. It is the replacement for just the filter so I am going to install lthe gasket to the filter it's self. What was confusing me was that the directions said to mount the gasket on the lower part of the housing, which as you probably know, would be pretty involved (especially for someone who is not very mechanicly inclined).

It's been about a year since I installed the K&N and as I remember, the filter fit so tight that there was no room for the gasket.
