Anybody no why GM has this badge on the new 06 I just bought? Any issue taking it off? It looks as if it is just double sided foam tape.. It's pretty tacky!

I just purchased an '06 Sierra 1500 and it has NO GM badges on the exterior anywhere, thankfully.

I just recently heard about the dental floss trick. I've never done it, but heard it does work.

First, the disclaimers:

1. I'm a big guy

2. I have pretty good manual dexterity

3. I get hyper-energized when I think of some pin-head marketing dork at HQ tackifying my beautiful new ride with some cheesy plastic taped-on bits of SPAM for me to drive around with, doing advertising for them.

4. YMMV!!!!

Now, to the process I used:

1. You don't need fishing line, a blow dryer, or even a hard boiled egg... all you need is your fingernails and some patience, combined with strength.

2. Lean over.

3. Grab the top of the badge, one index finger under each upper corner.

4. Gently pull OUT (not down) until the badge deflects. You will see gray/black foam expanding between the badge and your beloved painted quarter.

5. Release. Do same, but pulling on bottom two edges.

6. Go back to top, and repeat the pulling. Realize that if you fulcrum DOWN (bad), the lower corners will probably gouge into the paint. Not good. At first, I put a thin plastic wedge under the bottom as I pulled on the top, but it was hard to hold it all, and eventually, I decided to do it 'barehanded'

7. After about two minutes per side of thinking about the pencil-neck who decided to attach these this year, they will come off, with most of tape on the badge side.

8. Use some 'goo off' or 'goo-b-gone' (from Walmart, works great on glue, gum, sticky stuff without harming painted surfaces) to get the little bit remaining on paint.

9. RINSE liberally with water to get clean surface. Wax or Zaino or Rejex right away.

10. "Look ma, no badges on my 2006!":

Of course, 2005 had none, and this is for 2006, so who knows what might be needed in '07 to get attention...

Fast forward 15 years when C6s are now eligible for NCRS judging. I'm guessing there'll be a hot market in those little GM badges as thousands of folks scramble to get theirs back on for judging.

;LOL :rotfl ;LOL

Thanks everyone. I do plan to save them for future value. I can't believe GM put some piece of crap like this on.

Ron

I got them off using 20lb test fishing line and sawing back and forth. Worked great!

:cool

I'll bet the fishing line is the best way to go for most folks -- safe and easy.

I was always the kind of kid who tore my wrapping off my Chrismas presents; no stopping to fold and take off the bow, etc., so when I was washing my new 'vette, and noticed those stick-ons there... I kinda went into Hulk mode and just pried mine off with my fingers... :L

Hmmm...it doesn't bother me as much as some other folks. I think there were two reasons for doing this: (1) Chrysler has done this micro-badging on a number of their vehicles (like Viper, for instance), GM is just following suit, and (2) they want to remind people that GM is capable of producing an exceptional vehicle like Corvette. Don't forget that the only reason the car has survived is its prestige-generating image for the company.

I was less pleased with this badge when I found out via this forum that it's stuck on with automotive adhesive. If you're going to put a badge on a car, at least do it with a through-the-panel post mount. Stick-on anything seems cheesy for a car in this price range.

I like 'em!

Personally, I like them. They're different. I like little things like that that allow you to tell one year from another. I'm keeping mine on.

It doesnt bother me at all, cant understand how some get hung up on a, tiny 1" GM badge, Note GM has highest brand loyalty......Corvette won LeMans with GM all over it ?? GM manufactures the Corvette ,a bargan & the best sports car in the world ..........confused

I'm keeping mine on. I like GM, they make the Corvette :D

They had to do something so you can tell the 05 from the 06.

I AM amazed that some are soo troubled by this small GM emblem............Note >>>> GM has highest brand loyality & Has designed the C6 , the best sports car & bargan on the planet....also won LeMans...........I am A C2 big block owner ..who has a C6 on order >>>>the emblem will remain on my Corvette... Sorry to relply twice I must be so confused....woe.........the emblem , the emblem ,the emblem ,the emblem ,the emblem //// eeeeek !!! the emblem ...........sorta like what color should i get ? , what transmission do i get? , sould i get Z51?, still dont understand do you guys have cabin fever ???????????????????? the Dog.....the old dog>>>who has been driving GM machines & running the 1/4 mile since 1965 ............woe & woof from the Dogf

I hear ya as far as the emblem goes. I'd leave it on there myself, and I don't know why anyone would want to take it off in the first place. A dealer sticker is one thing, but a GM badge, even if it is cheap, is another.
But if you're paying that kind of money for a car, go ahead and do whatever the heck you want to with it.
As far as cabin fever goes, yeah, I sure as hell have it. And it's only gonna get worse after this Nor'easter. Looks like Ipswich is in for a pounding too!

Badgers

Gosh, I feel stupid... I thought the badge was kind of cool till I read all this.

Actually, I'm restoring a 1968 Charger RT and it had a Chrysler pentastar badge just about that size on the passenger side only in about the same spot (and yes, it was post-mounted, but was still just painted plastic even back then.)

What I hate is the dealerships that put their badge on a car--those I generally remove ASAP. But in the case of the Charger, I am the second owner, and the original buyer was meticulous--still had the purchase invoice, owner's manual, Chrysler warrantee card, and "WhiteBearDodge" badge from the dealer in Minnesota, so I may actually put it back on.

badging removal

Heat the area a little with a hair dryer, or if llocated in a hot enough area, let it sit in the sun for a while. I have used dental floss, but fishing line would probably be just as good. Saw it back and forth, and then get some Bug and Tar remover or Goo Gone or 3M Adhesive Releaser and use a soft cloth to remove the stickiness.
