DESCRIPTION

ZZ572/620 GM’s largest most powerful street engine.

The new ZZ572/620 is built around an all-new Gen VI tall deck Bow Tie cylinder block. This all new race block is filled with a forged 4340 steel crank with 4.375 inch stroke, shot peened forged 4340 H-beam rods, and forged aluminum pistons with full floating wrist pins. Hard core race parts for hard core long term durability!

The redesigned rectangular port aluminum cylinder heads result in a pump gas friendly 9.6 to 1 compression ratio. A hydraulic roller cam with 0.632 inch lift actuates the stainless steel valves. And, of course, hardened chromemoly retainers, roller rocker arms, and dual valve springs are used to complete the valvetrain.

A new GM tall deck single plane intake manifold and 850 CFM Demon carburetor deliver enough air and fuel to make the 620 horsepower at 5500 RPM and 650 ft.lbs. of torque at 4500 RPM. Ignition is handled by a GM HEI distributor.

Pump gas friendly, massive torque and horsepower, all from GM, the ZZ572/620 is for those who consider excess to be barely enough.

Available in both long block and deluxe engine configurations in the later half of 2003. :bu

What brought about this post was the fact that Kevin McClelland devoted a few words to it in his lead-off of his Performance Q&A section of Chevy High Performance magazine. He mentions the engine passing the 50-hour durability test at WOT, which he describes as being "a huge accomplishment for a package this size and temperment."

He goes on to describe the R version, "for the reptilian instincts in all of us." It's a high-compression Rat, featuring a 12.0:1 compression ratio, a mechanical roller with 266/274 degrees of duration at 0.050-inch tappet lift with a 0.714-inch max lift, a single-plane dominator-style inlet, and a King Demon 1,095-cfm 4500 series carb. Those tweaks pushed the power to 720 hp at 6,250 rpm, 685 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm, and a max rpm of 6,750. Warren Johnson, the Pro Stock Drag Racer, "touched one" and quickly stepped the horsepower beyond 800. He "touched it." :L

Just What I Need

That would put some cracks in the old fiberglass eh?:eek
