Going to look at an 82...advice?

My .02

Spend the extra on the car that has a lot of work already done on it.
If you are on this site, you already care more than a lot of vette owners. If you buy a car that is going to "Need", even a few things, a couple of grand will go in no time.

Thanks

Matt, if your wife is hooked on the body shape and color, you might want to look for an equivalent 1980 model. No computer controls there...just the good ol' Q-Jet 750 carb. Won't really notice any difference in the car itself. Plus, you can possibly find a 4-speed if you really want one.

Thanks for the input. I had thought a little about that as well. I love fuel injection, but not early editions that might be reliable if you get a good one, maybe not. My wife really wants a C3, she does love the body style and I don't see many differences, if any in the 80 vs. 82. Unfortunately we will have to wait until at least next year before we buy another one.

Easy solution!
Next year, buy a pre-1981 C3 ('68-'80) and add an aftermarket FI setup. There's TONS of 'em out there and quite a few people here have aftermarket or late model FI on their C3's. :upthumbs

(However, FWIW, a properly tuned Q-Jet will do ya just as well as a good FI setup, with potentially less hassle! :thumb)

I expect to see this thread resurrected next year! :L

Thanks

Thanks for your help and input. We will look around for the right car again next year, could still be that 82. I would like to pay off the 93' first, but I love the enthusiasm from my wife for what was originally my hobby and hopefully will become ours.

Congratulations on pulling off your event in Cleveland this year. We're only 3 hours away and have some friends in the area. It's tough for us to do Carlisle and any other event with a 2 year old. We do one Corvette trip in the summer and one snowmobiling trip in the winter without Emma. Off topic but I actually loaded the car seat in the vette last week and gave her a first ride in the vette. She was so excited because she had only patted and rubbed it in the garage to this point. Her eyes lit up and she yelled "ride in my vette, go faster daddy." I loved it as much as she did!

That is a cute story. So you might have to get a 3rd Vette at some point :-)

If you decide to go EFI...

Below is a tech article I wrote on some of the finer points to getting EFI into a C3-

PM or give me a call. I've installed three EFI systems (one Holley, two TPI) onto C3s.
