Mason Dixon Chapter's 15th. year of putting on the vintage Corvette drags at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, MD.

Had 102 Corvettes, 120 drivers. Beautiful day.

Only one mishap, when a drag race prepared C3 broke a UJoint/Half Shaft AFTER going through the timing traps. Did a 360 spin at about 120 MPH. Kept it off both Jersey walls. Great driving job. Towed it back. No severe damage to the car.

Here are some pix. Chuck

thanks for sharing....looks like everyone had a good time......Herb

Sure beats sitting under a shade tree in a lawn chair worrying about dust and fingerprints. :)

good comment!!!!

Motorman,

drove "LADY" to the event, not the MB - thought about taking her down the track, and when the C3 "broke" thought better of it

Clem,

on a side note - did the 1953 #5 sell at Bloomington or not? know you were there at the auction, and no one else is speaking!

Hi Rick,

That C3 had stickerier tires than you. Lady would have smoked em a little and been just fine. She would have had a little more spring in her step on the way home too. :)

i was there but i stayed inside the A/C building drinking beer with the rest of the VHs. check over there as some of the die hards were at the auction.

Rick drove the Z06 to the event, AFTER dropping his daughter off at BWI Airport, also in the Z06, earlier that AM.

The C3 that broke a U joint was a drag race prepared car. Unusual that he broke it going through the traps, and not at the start line.

He did one heck of a job keeping the car off the walls. He did at least one 360 degree spin.

There is a NHRA rule of some sort that IF you run below a certain ET, you have to have a straight axle. SO, "stock" Corvettes that turn low ET's have to change over at some point. What is that point? I don't know.

I was talking with the guys in the tower at Cecil County. They said they routinely tow Corvettes off the track with broken U joints. They also said they tow a LOT of front wheel drive "rice burners" that break CV joints. Chuck

Thanks for posting the pics Chuck.

It look like it was a lot of fun. They are meant to be driven and enjoyed as much as possible.

I used to run my '65 at Napierville (South of Montreal) when I lived in Quebec. Lots of fun. Ran 13.6 / 105mph on Micheclin radials.

I took a bunch of fellows from the NCRS Chapter down there but it never caught on with them.

Post more pics if you have them.

Take care,
Brian

I was just reading Chuck's post and thinking the same thing. A shame that so few of the other members here actually drive the cars...........

Love to Jane.

We get a lot of our Chapter members at the event. SOME run their old Corvettes, some run their C5's and C6's.

This year, we had about 35 members out of a Chapter of 85 members present at the event.

It's by far our most popular event. We get more at the drags than we get at the FREE Chapter picnic. :) They would rather race than eat. Chuck

Thanks for the pics. Sorry I missed it. That is a local trip for me.
