I know someone on here has an answer to this problem. My 2000 convertible has some very strange gremlins living in the drivers door. I have often suspected a short somewhere since I get so many intermittent warning lights and system problems. I think I have narrowed it down to the drivers door. I did notice that sometimes when I would close the drivers door it would affect the A/C fan speed (turn on or off) Today, I was driving with the top down and A/C off. Stopped and went in for coffee and when I got back in and started it up, the A/C came on. I did not have any warnings on the way to the coffee but after the A/C thing, the check engine light came on along with several other system problems. I can go into the DIC and reset all of them and everything will be fine until the next gremlin strikes.
About a year ago I checked the connector that can be accessed in the door by pulling back that accordion thing and everything looked ok. I have heard about a short in the drivers door causing all kinds of problems. I am looking for some direction to solve this problem. Is changing the wiring harness between the door and where ever it connects under the dash an option? Grounds to check? I want to keep the car since it only has 36k miles and is in show condition but this is driving me crazy.:confused

crause, I'm hoping that Paul (C4C5specialist) check in here, as he will most likely have some answers for you. There are several others here who might have suggestions too.

I had a problem with the right door and it was finally traced to a break in one of the wires running from the body to the door. there was a very fine brown wire that looked ok but had a slight break and opening and closing the door could make/break contact. went through 5 body control module changes before that was discovered. so the wires can look ok but be damaged inside the insulation.
