Hey folks,

Today I noticed that the rear passenger wheel well on my car appeared to have a much larger area of clearance above the tire than the rear driver's side. I decided to check my visual acuity by implementing a high tech measuring device...I used a tape measure...

I was right...the distance from ground to the highest point on the wheel well passenger side was 28.5" vs. 28.0" on the driver's side. I took the same measurements on the front wheels and those matched up with each other. I took these measurements with the car located at several points within my driveway and garage to confirm the ground was level.

Here is my question...though it is merely 1/2 of an inch, should I be concerned? Are there components in the ride system that can fail and create this disparity? Does anyone know the factory spec for this measurement and can it vary from one side to the other assuming equal loading on each side? Now that I know that there is a difference, it appears huge to me.

If I am worried about nothing, let me know.
Thanks
Robb

I'd have to double-check my service manual, but I believe the ride-height is adjustable, and perhaps just needs to be adjusted. :)

Sounds like good news.
An adjustment is certainly preferable to a replacement due to failure. Let me know what you find out.

thanks much.

Just a thought, the extra 1/2 inch may be built in to compensate for the inhearent axle and suspension reactions upon acceleration. Think of it like putting an automatic transmission equiped car into drive and pulling the e-brake. With the rear end loaded, the rear of the car will settle a little from when the car is in park and the suspension is unloaded. Again just a thought....

Well, the manual doesn't quite explain how to adjust the trim height, but the specs for the height don't indicate that the left or right side should be any higher than the other.

I'm sure the height can be adjusted, though. But the manual doesn't appear to explain how to do it...

Ride height is measured from the chassis only never from the body. Too much variation. Spec's are in the Heim's service manual.
