i had a post a while ago about my wipers working when they wanted to, i was told to check out the ground for the switch. according to my shp maunual the wiper switch grounds out with the instrument panel ground. and that ground says it is at the left hinge pillar above the courtesy light. ok no problum there i now what that is but my problum is my courtesy light isnt attached to anything down there scine the day i bought it, so i just wrap it around wires up there wheneveer it falls back down. so is it over on the hinge pillar or of just near it and also can i see it from below the sterring whell if i take out the duct work? somone else had told me the ground was at the insterment panel bezzel, please tell me what part of the bezzel. do i have to take out the speedo and tach to get to it? thank you for the help, i just dont want to take extra stuff out i dont have to its cold outside even in the garage.

Here is a copy from the 1981 Assembly Manual of the ground I think you are looking for ;)

thank you for the illistration--- i went out and found it after taking out some duct work. the ground looked to be fine, so i went and checked for power at the wiper motor, to my surprise there was none. last time i checked there was so i checked out the fuse thou i just replaced it within a week befor i put it up for winter and said ill figure out the problum later. when i removed the fuse i found that it is melted on the outside and started to burn the fuse panel to it also. ahh crap!!!!!! tell me if im right here but dont that mean that i have a short to ground in the circet. and should i risk putting in another fuse, also the ground i checked is confrimed good, i used it with the test light. it is the battery side of the fuse that melted not the control assembly side

a little back ground on the problum, started over the summer, the wipers would work intermintinly. i replaced the fuse, no change-- i tested for power when it stoped working and there was still power. i could jump the motor thou and get it to work. thats why i was told it is a ground problum.

Is there anything spliced into the wires going to the wiper switch?

I have an 82 but I think the wiring is similar. The previous owner had spliced into the "hot" and was running the tack and speedo lights of it. Once I repair the real problem with the tack and speedo I kept blowing the wiper fuse.

You might wan to examine the wires from the switch. You may have damaged one or more when you were jumping the switch. See if one or more a fused together. You could have two bare wires touching which may explain why its intermittent...eg. after you hit a bump....

Anything else acting up?

Do you have delay wipers? Did you check the delay module? Its in one of the compartmentsin the rear.

dont know what the real problum is but i put a new fuse in and it works good except for the delay seems to work when it wants to. and i dont smell smoke or and the new fuse appers fine when i pulled it out. thanks for the help

If its just the delay thats not working I suggest you check the delay module. Its not the dash switch thats malfunctioning.

when you say delay moduel, do you mean the control assembly or is there a seprate model?

I have a 1982 Corvette. I think aside from our engines the cars are the same.

There are three parts to my wiper system, 1) the wiper motor 2) the wiper switch 3) the delay module. I have the delay wiper option I guess...do you??

I see that our switches are the same so I'm assuming you have the delay module. If you do it will be in the rear storage area under one of your rear compartments. Take a look. It may have fallen and grounding out on something....I think your tire jack will be in the same compartment...

hey jim, guess where the control moduel is...... the rear compartment. so again do you know if these are the same thing, delay moduel= control assembly ???

Its called the Pulse Wiper Controller. It should be under under the comparment in the back. You should also see other things there...like the power antenna relay. Have you looked yet.
