OK,OK,Even though my newly acquired L81 has only 41k on her and had some work done to it. Ive noticed just today a couple of quirks.

This afternoon when driving around a little after work, engine fully warmed up and running smooth;all of a sudden she starts bucking and running erractic at low speed almost like in the old days when you had a wet or hairline crack in the distributor cap.

It did this for about a mile, then stopped. I got her home, took her out for another drive, topped off the tank with 89 grade, which i have been using since i got the car,and added some stp gas treatment.

Car runs smooth again,no bucking or hesitation.
Could it have been bad gas? water in fuel? or bad fuel filter. By the way where is the fuel filter located on the 81's?
Ive changed all the other filters already.

Also some of you may remember my earlier post on the headlight dimmer switch, and not having any interior lights.

Well Corvette Center swapped one out of a wrecked 80 vette and all dash light s work now as they should.

EXCEPT tonight when i took a drive after dark with lights on the gauges, and even the clock do not work, but do when the lights are turned off, they function perfect

As always,thanks in advance. Ken

Hey Ken, I forgot another problem i need to add to my C3 experience list, 3 weeks ago i was coming home from work which is 13 miles on the highway well i thought i heard/felt something different so i turned down the radio and i looked and i saw my tach acting erractic and the gas pedel felt weird , that lasted maybe 10 sec total, it did it again the next morning again same amount of time, i have been using Sunoco 93 pretty much so , i think it was bad gas in both are cases, i have a mazda 323 and last year i spent $1,000 ( timing belt, whole distribiter, fuel filter, etc ) and found out it was ONLY bad gas, i let it go down so low and the problem work it's way out, the Mazda was very erractic , twice i got stuck on the highway and that was after the New Distribtor was put in, it has been fine for 2 years, now that i had a problem with 2 cars like that, to me it's BAD GAS , it has been a week and a half and my Vette hasn't done it again. I still want to take a look at my plugs and cap also.

Rick

Thanks for the imput Rick,My car did the same thing with the tach jumping all over the place too.

When I got the car 2 weeks ago,the tank was nearly empty, and I filled her up and the car had been sitting also 2 years prior. Im thinking bad gas also, but I still probably will change the fuel filter Ken

I was getting a slight "buck" which progressly got worse. After it stalled at a light and refused to start for 5 minutes I went on the web. The web responses said to replace the "module" in the distributor, it sits just under the advance weight mechanism off to the side. Kinda half moon shaped. Took longer getting the cap off then plugging the new one in.
Has run perfect since.
JU

Thanks john,if it does that again after changing the fuel filter. (etc)

That is where Im going next. Ken

Mines at 42700 and will do that after winter storage until it is topped off with fresh gas. Nature of the beast.

I once owned an 80 Chevy truck that, at 12000 miles ,crapped out in front of an oncoming semi because the module died while making a left handed turn. Luckily , we missed.

The only stock fuel filter is the small one in the fuel inlet into the carb.

I added an external one and threw that one away.

I also agree with the Bad Gas theory...
