hard braking makes engine want to die

If I brake very quickly during cruising speed the engine "bogs down" and wants to die...I assume it is carb related. If I slow down at a normal pace, no problems. Any ideas?

Could be float level in the carb. Could be the signal from the distributor. Have you scanned the computer for an error code?

:)

The float filling with fuel would be my first guess. If the float is sinking, the fuel level gets too high in the bowl and when you brake hard it vomits fuel.

God bless, sensei

...fuel slosh in the carb.

What kind of carb is on the engine?

Sorry just now checking this, haven't been on in awhile. Got into replacing all of the weatherstripping and working on my brothers 77. It is the factory carb...it has been rebuilt a couple of years ago and never had any problems. I had a situation where I gunned it last year getting on the expressway and it started dying and sputtering something terrible. At first I thought I blew my engine up it really took me by surprise. I took it to a friend of mine who has his own garage and he blew the carb out and removed the choke (I boxed it up in case I need to re-install later!) and re-did the timing among other things and it runs better than it has ever ran in the 10 years I have owned. He helped my seal some exhaust leaks and several minor maintenance issues. It has been running real good after this but my only complaint is a real sudden stop will make it idle extremely low.
