My 92 LT1 has about 96k miles on it. It sometimes takes a bit of cranking for it to start up. When starting it cold sometimes, if I turn the key quickly it will catch & start up, rev up and then back down to idle. Other times I have to crank it for 5-10 seconds for it to kick over. I've read a lot of posts here about fuel injector cleaning, so maybe that needs to be done. I had the water pump and optispark replaced right after I bought the car about 4 years ago at 72k miles. Soon thereafter I replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs & plug wires. The car runs great after it's started. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Check the cold start relay ..... when cold, the motor should idle at a higher rpm ,,, then once it gets warmed up it should idle down to a lower RPM.. If it doesn't do this it probably is in the cold start circuit somewhere

There is no Cold Start relay in a 92. Only 84 according to my repair manual & it's called a Cold Start Module.

Hard Start

I've had three cars with this symptom (none Corvettes) and every one of them had an EGR that would stick open - sometimes a lot (very difficult to start) and other times a little (only slightly slow to start). All three would start much quicker if the key was pushed to 'start' very briefly then back to 'off' then back to 'start' and hold. This was because there is an extra squirt of gas when the key is switched to 'start'. The second squirt was enough to overcome the lean condition that the open EGR caused.
Check out your EGR by watching it while applying vacuum to it's control (suck on the tube - enging cold) and make sure it goes throught it's full travel. If it sometimes doesn't go full closed, that's the problem.
Hope this helps.
