I was wondering if anyone has had this problem or could steer me in the right direction on what to do. I have a 994 vette with 55,000 miles, it will start but it cranks for 8-10 seconds before starting. This long crank put up the service engine light. Can anone give me an idea on what I should be looking for, I know it needs new plugs. Thank you.

gee sorry you got missed?
check your fuel pressure, dirty injectors, time for a new fuel filter?? tune-up if it never been done in 55K miles??

Get the code for the service engine light. Could be a engine management sensor gone bad.

Slow start

Check the codes; bet it's the egr. Get where you can see the egr shaft and try 'manually' applying a vacuum (suck on the hose - buy a new piece to stay clean). If it doesn't respond to the vacuum or doesn't return to closed position reliably, replace the egr.

Thank you guys, now to get the service code from the car, someone told me to short pins 12 and 4 on the ALDL, will this work do you know? I don't want to do anything to damage the car. I changed the plugs and the air filter because it was clogged. It still has a long crank, but runs perfectly once it turns over. Thank you.

Error codes

Do a search using the 'search' tab above for error codes.
Here's one that I grabbed some time ago.

Excellent error code reference in Corvette Acton Center

If you can get a Helms manual (actually a set of 2 books) for your year it will really help. They are year specific.

Hope it helps.
