OK all of you C5 owners. I have a question. Does the top come off of the HardTop corvettes? I am looking at an '02 Z06 Hardtop and was wanting to know if the tops on these cars can come off? Also, need someone to look at this car for me. It is located at the CARMAX lot located on the SouthWest Freeway. Thanks for the info and any help.

Nope!

If you want fresh air and sun on your head, you'll need to buy either a 'coupe' or a 'convertible'. The top on the Z06 and the 99-00 "Hardtops" are fixed.

I wouldn't recommend buying a corvette from a carmax lot..

You get much better deals from the forum members of the various internet corvette sites...

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll back off on the carmax deal. They have a 2002 yellow Z06 for sale. I don't know much about carmax but their price ($33000) seems to be in line with what I have seen so far. I already have the '86 but I have to sell it first.... or keep it and just wait. Thanks again. Great site and great advice for the uneducated.

OBW, the vette is in Texas and I am in Maryland. They want $700 to move it to Maryland. Not a bad price but I know that you have to be careful when hauling these cars and that the guys who haul the vettes from Bowling Green are specially trained to haul the vettes.

I've had the occasional wild thought of selling mine. (my 02 z06)
How many miles on the carmax one?

The 04 price discounts are at a point that for a few $$ more you could get a new one with .9 or 0% loan the payments would be less than a used one.....Something to think about??

Isn't that only 10-11 hours away?

Hs, the CARMAX Z06 has 22,000 miles. Their asking price is $33,000 plus $700 to transport the car from Texas. The only concern I have is that the only history available on this car is that on CARFAX. It appears to be clean from the report. But as you know sometimes CARFAX doesn't have all of the history. Had a friend of mine who bought a Cobra after running a CARFAX and getting a clean history. Turns out the car had been hit in the rear on the pax side. The only way he found that out is he took the car in to have the pax door adjusted and the body guy told him that the car had sustained severe damage and had been repaired. During the repair they forgot to re-adjust the pax door and they forgot to get all of the paint overspray off of the exhaust tips. So I do have some reservations about the deal. I think that Texas is a little more than 10-12 hours away. Course with the Z06 it is only 10-12 hours away.

Thanks again guys. I am still thinking about the deal.

Thanks for the info. Yesterday I located a Black '04 Z06 at Kerbeck's for $36,990 with only 6,000 miles. Before I could talk to someone yesterday it sold. Oh well, I'll just take my time. I am sure that once the C6 Z06 is on the market that there will be plenty of excellent C5 Z06's up for sell. So I'll wait. Thanks again.
