I am looking to add a harness bar to my 90 vert. I would like to stiffen up the body somewhat and also add the look. Does anyone have any leads on a good one. I would like one that has the hoops at the seats but performance is first priority. If you have pics with them installed, it would help with my decision.

Thanks

I have a brey - krause, it looks great and was easy to put in.

R-D Racing as mentioned has some very nice vert harness bars that install easily. Dave also carries G-Force harnesses and the appropriate mounting kits for them.

Keep in mind that SCCA will not allow a vert with a harness bar in autocross competition. The thought being that in a rollover, the driver wearing a harness cannot move to the side of the car to protect him/herself in the event of the car rolling. A roll bar is required in verts without the factory hardtop. The typical "hoops" you see behind the seatback like some C5 cars have are not designed for rollover protection.

Not sure what NHRA/IHRA rules may be for dragracing, but if you must have a 5-point harness, the chances are you also need a 4-point minimum rollbar for e.t.'s under 12 seconds.

I am not involved in sanctioned competition. I am looking for a way to stiffen the normal flex of a vert. I looked on RD Racing and they have the Cross Frame that looks more rigid than the stock one. The combo of that and a harness bar should make it solid.

jplay-where did you get yours and about how much cha-ching?

Thanks

The R-D Racing Cross Frame is pretty much the same piece you already have on your Vert. The factory X-member bolts to the corners of the frame and studs are inserted into the floor pan to further tighten the body and brace to the frame corners.

Did you look at the Camber Brace? That piece ties the upper control arms and the front frame rails together. It's an excellent way to stiffen the front of the car. I have one on my 87 coupe along with the Harness Bar and both pieces made a big difference. My coupe also has Z52 suspension and that option also added the stiffening braces that are added to verts.

The Harness Bar helps but it does cut down the size of the opening to the rear storage area when the decklid is down. On nice days with the top down that's not a real issue but with the top up, you just have to be careful how large something is that you want to put there.

Another thing you can do to really stiffen the car up is to install the factory hardtop. The hardtop has an integral halo bar just like the coupes have and once it's bolted in place the car become stiffer than a coupe. I have on for my 92 vert and not oly does the car handle totally different, all the squeaks and rattles go completely away. They're pricey (figure anywhere from $800 to $1200 depending if you need it painted) but its a neat addition to the car and the car looks totally different.

I have the Cross-Frame for my 84 and it amde a HUGE difference!! R-D Racing is the way to go. The Cross frame is about $350.00 and not sure what the Harness bar is. They also make a Camber Brace that works great.

Dave is a great person to deal with. I ordered many things from him and just ordered the cam lock belts and hardware.

Well, ordered the Cross Bar and Camber Brace from R&D Racing. What a pleasure to deal with. Emailed Dave a question, he replied quickly with his number for me to call. Called him and he answered...That's service. Received confirmation that it will be shipping next week. Will let you know when installed.

Thanks to all of you for your feedback. It really helped in my decision.

You'll notice a big difference with those installed!! Dave is a great person to deal with and he is ready to help with any problems that you may encounter. It's too bad that there isn't more people like Dave out there when it comes to dealing with Vette parts and accessories vendors

Dave is Da Man!! :BOW
