The POR tech said the max. temp . is 600 f. for POR 15. Has anyone covered thier exhaust system with POR 15 (at least up to the Header collectors) ??? How did it work...and , is there a smell it lets off when heated ??

If youve used it on non-metal things, like vinyl ... how did it work out ?

Thanks, Dave

No - but I just read a bunch of stuff on this product and it sounds like a miracle paint/coating that would work on anything.

Save the Wave :w

Or you could Jet-Hot coat them....but that would probably be uber expensive. :t

Jet Hot is the shizit.....
I did my headers with Jet Hot a few years ago.
they arrived Black from Summit and then I sent them to Jet Hot and they came back a cool Chrome color.....looked sweet....
but unfortunately, didn't make enough progress to install them and test them out. I had to sell them, since I no longer needed the back output pipes.....going with side pipes now:s, and when I get those they will be Jet Hot coated too.....
price was about 200-250 with shipping and all, but it was a VERY professional job.....

never thought about using POR on that though.......I just check their web site, cause I'm fixing to POR my frame, and the have a hi-temp engine POR application, which may better be suited for that.
if interested, try www.por-texas.com .....they got some kinda going out of business sale or something going on right now......prices have dropped a few $$$......

let us know if you do try it and how it works, but I would prefer JET HOT, but it is substantially cheaper for the POR stuff, and they do also make a Sterling Silver too....

I've been noticing this kind of speech lately, and it reminded me of Detroit - ABOUT TWENTY YEARS AGO! :L

Didn't like it then, don't like it now. :eyerole

I think i will use the Por 'hi temp' (1400 f) for the Headers and exhaust...and just use the Por 15 (600 f) for the frame and engine compartment.

My Headers have been Jet Coated but it must have been way before i bought the car, cause they look a bit faded to me -- Im sure the hi temp Por is going to be nice stuff to work with.

They claim it dries so rock hard that it makes a good sealer for things, also. The magazine ad says you can whack it with a hammer and not break it up. Im really looking forward to trying out this product,as well as some of thier other products too, like : 'Boss Gloss' for an enduring shine on rubber , plastic, and vinyl. (yikes....i sound like a POR sale rep !)

I used Eastwood facroty grey High Temp Coating on my manifolds. This stuff works great, it dries hard and wont rub off. It is cured when the manifolds get heated up. http://www.eastwoodcompany.com

JE,

I tried Eastwoods Header paint but it either rubbed off or flaked off after 2 weeks. I followed the directions closely too. Thats why im changing to POR Header Paint. Its in the mail to me and ill give a report on it after i use it. My Header temp. as measured with an infrared thermometer was only 528 f. at the cylinder heads when engine was hot. Dont know why Eastwood didnt work well for me.

Can they Jet Hot Coat a used set of headers/sidepipes.

I wanted to get the pipes done on the 77 but they are rusted.

Can they fix that then coat them chrome?:confused

FF, Dont know if they do used Headers at Jet Hot Coating. Maybe log onto thier website and ask them. The guy i bought the car from had the headers Jet Hot Coated. ..but i assume he sent out new ones to them.

Well...i coated my exhaust system (not including the headers), with POR 15 which is good for 600 f. (ill do the headers with POR 20 which is good for 1200 f) . Anyway...im happy with the way it turned out so far ; nice shiny black , dried pretty smooth, and obviously a durable coating from the looks of it. Over the weekend, i also applied POR15 to the wheelwells of my 2002 Hyundai SUV which are finished in plastic ; turned out real nice and shiny . Im anxious to see if dirt will hose off easier than before.

Try "HPC" in Oklahoma City, OK. I had an old set of Eagle chrome headers that the chrome was just about burnt off. I sent 'em to "HPC" & they coated 'em & they looked nice & are still looking good after 15 yrs. So, I know they do used pipes. Just make sure that you get your headers done inside/outside. That'll make 'em last. Also, if you do have your's already coated, try to clean 'em up using a scotchbrite pad. That's what I use when I notice that mine start to look a little dull. Brings 'em back to life.

Dave (A little more of that "Detroit Lingo" please)

Oh; Forgot to give you their website:

www.hpcoatings.com

Check 'em out.:cool

ffvetteman,
i had my used headers done by jet hot. they came out nice one thing though, they cannot remove dents, so if they are badly dinged up, you might want to get a new set
