Has anyone installed this type or window reg. on an 84

This might help

My 86 coupe's [passanger window quit working, so I replaced the motor. We had a hard time matching up the motor and the guy at autozone tried an 85 motor...sure enough it was the correct one - the regulator was the ribbon type.

When I compared it to the one in the driver's door, it was not the same.

I am assuming that the clown who owned it before replaced the 86 passanger regulator with the pre-86 unit. It fit ok, but I intend to change it back to the 86 gear driven model....in fact I bought one on ebay similar to the one you identified in your pic. I have not installed it yet, but will this winter. the 86 model moves the window up and down much faster....good luck

I changed over as fast as I could...the only problem is to remember to remove elbow out of the way as the newer style is much faster then the ribbon.

Take door apart. Remove the aluminum piece and just slide out of way instead of complete removal.undo window by three bolts and hold it in the up position, I was able to wedge it up. then remove the bolts to the old regulator. throw it away. install new regulator, attach bolts at top. Once it is tight take an awl or something pointed and mark new holes for the bottom, then remove the regulator, drill the new holes in bottom of door and reinstall the regulator. Attach the window and reassemble the door. Took me about an hour to do the whole thing.
Now both doors are done and it ig great....they move fast and there is no ribbon to grease and or replace due to breakage.
If you need and help just ask....

I put the newer style in my 86 and it's excellent. Fast, smooth, quiet operation.

I picked up the drivers side on eBay. I will have to wait for one to become available for passenger side.

Those ribbons sure are a pita. But I was able to get it installed in a couple of hours.
