I don't know exactly how to be very politically correct here, but I'll give it a shot ;)

The HAT PINS are going to have to wait. I received a memo from the boss here at the Registry :eek and she said something to the effect... "So how many of those will be in your Corvette Locker collecting dust once the intial sale's blintz"

You see I still have 40 Travel Mugs, 5 White Hats, 11 Black Hats : Polo Shirts I have 3 Small, 10 Medium, 8 Large, 8 XLarge and a 3 XLarge that was a special order then the person decided not to buy it, but spent $47 on the very same shirt, except it had the word CORVETTE on it at NCM during SharkFest :mad I also have Denim SHORT Sleeve Shirts, 1 Small, 3 Medium, 1 Large, 1 XLarge: Denim LONG Sleeve, 2 Small, 2 Medium, 1 Large.

Just to let everyone know, I UPS'ed FOUR Boxes of merchandise to Bowling Green for SharkFest @ about $46 per box. I sold maybe 3 Shirts, 2 Hats and 0 Coffee Mugs.. My buddy BLACKDOG and I stuffed everything into our Corvettes and what didn't fit I gave to the Staff at the Ramada Inn for all their great service and help they provided to me during the stay there.

Last year for Christmas I sent everyone in my family a hat, shirt and travel mug.

So until I can convince the Boss to let me spent another $400 ~ $600 for more stuff. The pins just ain't going happen for a while!

Sorry to be so blunt, but I plan to retire in August this year (2004) and I have to look out for me and my family. I enjoy doing this stuff, but to be very honest between getting stiffed a few times for merchandise, and not having the exact size on hand for orders is stressful.

This isn't to lay a guilt trip on anyone, it is the facts. I've put out a bunch of $$$ getting the Registry together and to get our Registry out there. We are one of the largest Single year Registry and have been recognized by the NCM, NCOA and mentioned in various Club news letters and even mentioned in a couple National Corvette publications.

I'm very proud of what we've done and recognition we've received.

How many Registry's have their very own NCM BRICK, a great website, great merchandise, been involved in 2 major NCM Events and over 500 members?? We've come a long ways in the 3 years of our existance.

The PINS will come, but not for a few months ;)

AND NO.. this is NOT a CRY for money or a precurser for dues, The L81VetteRegistry will remain free to all 1981 Corvette Owners.

The Registry is providing a repository and a data base for the 1981 Corvette, documenting our cars past and preserving our rightful place in Corvette History!

I am not sure how many people we have in the L81 VetteRegistry or for that matter how many people on this forum would like to have these pins. I am sure of ONE thing though. I have met Bud and can tell you ALL that he is above all things a gentleman. I propose that if this is to become a reality we all pitch in UP FRONT and send Bud the money he needs to launch this project NOW ! How about it Bud,how much would we need to send? I don't think any of us would miss a $20.00 and we would get a great addition to our Corvette collections. Let's here from ALL of you that are interested in helping a good person out and remember you are going to get what you pay for. Hell you pay UP FRONT for the things on Ebay why not here. Thanks for listening, Dean

Dean,

Thank you for the kind words. I will give the hat pins another thought after the first of the year. I appreciate your offer, but I promise to maintain the Registry fee Free as long as I am associated with it.

You and your wife are special people, I realized that when we met at the Corvettes against Cancer show in Phoenix. ;)

There are those that chose to get involved, and there are those that sit on the sidelines, then there are those that sit on the sidelines and do nothing but complain and are only into what can benefit them.

We are the L81VetteRegistry, we will remain the L81VetteRegistry ;)

Dean thank you for your concern and involvement. I appreciate your support and I'm glad you have a 1981 Corvette ;)

Very well said Dean! and I totally agree! I too have met Bud and can truely say he is a stand-up guy. So what'll it take Bud? Let me know what you need to help get this project started and I'll send you advance payment. Anyone else care to jump in?

Zane

Zane,

Thanks for the offer, but I just need to find a place that will deal a bit more on the prices. My mission is to keep all the prices low enough on our merchandise so anyone and everyone that wants a shirt or whatever can afford it.

It would be a whole lot easier to negotate face to face instead of over the internet or telephone. This last go around I gave the go ahead then they said since I wasn't ordering a minimum of 300 that there would be an additional fee for set up, and handling and shipping.. I told them to stick it I would go somewhere else.

I would like to order around a 100 or so. By not ordering their minimum of 300, the price for 100 was within $.62 of their minimum order after they added all the extra fee's to it :mad

I'll have more time after the first of the year to check out more than 3 companies ;)

How's Rares twin doing?? Are you still driving that 94 year round?? Yea I know Missouri kicked our butts this year :(

Bud

Bud, Rares twin is doing great! She's safely tucked away for the winter right now. Can't say the same for the 94. Yes, I'm driving her year round!! Thru rain, snow, and what ever else mother nature throws our way. But thats what I bought her for -- to drive!!:Steer Have a great New Year, Zane

Bud, I like the 2nd one and the zinc alloy.
I will purchase both.

Happy New Year fellow 81rs!!!!

I wear my L81 Registry shirts and hat to every Corvette show I go to. They are very nice looking and usually get a comment from several people, especially other '81 owners that don't know about the registry. Some Corvette hats and shirts don't age well. You liked them when you bought them but later you just don't care to wear them anymore. Not so with the L81 items. They look sharp every time you are deciding what to wear to an event. Also my L81 coffee mug is so nice that I have yet to soil it with coffee. Everything Bud has had made is the result of considerable thought.

He really doesn't have that much inventory in stock but to a wife it looks like a lot. If we all would help him empty his L81 locker maybe his boss would go for the pins more readily.

Bud,
Whatever you have left bring along to Cruise-Fest '04 and we will display it in the registration area. Pack some in every car in your caravan to avoid the UPS charges. I hope to have a significant L81 presence at the event.

By the way: Registrations are arriving daily and the 100 available seats at the banquet are counting down. Still plenty of room but they won't last forever.

Tom

I'll start a new thread and as a Registry we can discuss your questions and maybe, just maybe we can put some of your idea's and thoughts together and come up with some solutions and keep the Registry a living Registry for our members.

Let me think a bit more and once I've had some time to think about all this we can provide everyone a little something in the Registry ;)

THANKS for your input and support. Focus on the solution, one must ;)

Bud

Hey Bud,

I'll take a mug and a black hat. I'd order a couple of shirts but I'm not down to an XL ...yet. Maybe another month. Email me @ jdads2@hotmail.com and put "corvette" somewhere in the subject line.
